BTW, you may want to check out Anonimo watches. Definitely something "different" and a much better, quality timepiece - large and solid with excellent movements compared to U-Boat and you can most likely find a new or used timepiece in a reasonable price range.

Having owned at least four Anonimos, I must say that I like their designs better than their quality control and customer service. The Anonimos I've owned each had minor blemishes, and Anonimo USA barely exists at all when you're having a problem. But I love their designs of 4-5 years ago.

As an alternative to B&R and U-Boat, I would instead recommend Sinn or Damasko (especially Damasko unless you need something greater than 42mm). They have bold dials, double AR coating, superior finish, and extraordinary technology including highly scratch resistant cases and bezels. I would say Sinn and Damasko are among the greatest values currently on the luxury market.

B&R without a doubt. I've looked at many U-Boats but never been impressed enough to buy one. In the metal they look a bit cheap (for the price tag). The two B&Rs I have owned did a much better job of looking and feeling like a quality product.

Strangely, second-hand demand for U-Boats in this country is really strong, I don't know why. I've seen a lot of them move very quickly online (for substantially less than list price, though).

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of B&R, but I'd take one over a U-Boat any day of the week. U-Boat, regardless of its innards, look like toys and IMO, are "fad" watches. I don't see any U-Boat watches that we'll be discussing on these boards 10 years from now. They look like plastic and are extremely overpriced for what they are...just check out eBay and see how many you can find for upwards of 75% off retail.

:yeahthat
I fall in the same category, not a fan of B & R as they do not appeal to me aesthetically, but if I had to choose, it would be a B & R over the U-boat any day for the same reasons Drtymrtini stated. Square watches tend to be a very polarizing style and while I appreciate the uniqueness and diversity this style adds to a collection, there are very few square watches that appeal to me. Another factor I would consider is value retention; based on comments mentioned above, it appears the B & R holds it's value far better than the U-Boats do.

+1 for Sinn. The U1 is an awesome watch, if I didn't steal my PO from Sergio thats what I'd be wearing right now.
