I wasn't trying to call out a fake but I think I scared a guy off of having a watch conversation. I was at my daughter's daycare Thanksgiving party and saw a guy wearing a B4B Motors. So I approached, complimented his watch, and told him I had a GT. He kinda gave me the "yeh, yeh, yeh" treatment and scurried off. I never got a good look, but I figured it was a fake.

Have you ever noticed someone wearing a fake watch and point it out to the wearer?

I've been involved in watch trades online for well over a decade, and in that time I've spotted more fakes than I can even remember (luckily, I always checked before a swap, so I never wound up with a fake from a trade). I'd say about 3/4 of fakes floating around online are from people who know they are fake but try to pass them off as legitimate, while 1/4 are people who genuinely believe their fakes are real and don't know any better.

Only on eBay and buy/sell boards.
Otherwise it's not worth it

I have a friend who has now retired and lives in Nassau, Bahamas. He owned a couple of businesses in England and possesses considerable personal wealth. His go-to watch for any special occasion is a $10 fake Rolex dress watch, even though he owns several official named watches.
I asked him about it and he said that it made him smile inside. Whatever company he was in would see the watch and because of who he is they never question its validity. He has a good laugh about it, it seems :-)
A little on the strange side, my mate :)

In fact, when I was looking for a programmer, one of the applicants, who was invited for a personal interview, wore a fake rolex, he was out of the game, before he opened his mouth....

On the other side, when I was changing my bank connection, one of the bankers wore a fake breitling, his offer was the best, and now he is proudly wearing a real one....

Not that I have great confidence in my ability to spot a fake but I am reading and learning on this forum. Either way, I don't think I could tell someone their watch is a fake. Maybe drop a hint and point them to this forum... That's all my sweet mild mannered heart could handle ;)

A former co-worker had a fake breitling for bentley. He used to wear it all the time and I always noticed it. One day we got into a discussion about watches and I didnt out right call him out, but did show that I had a pretty good knowledge about breitling. I asked him how he liked his 6.75. I guess he felt guilty and he came clean to me and said it was a replica. Needless to say, I never saw him wearing it around the office again.

Dude, exact same thing here. I noticed one of my co-worker (which i know really well) wear a new watch. The guy is not a watch guy, i never saw him wear anything worth notice. Anyways, i'm on the other side of the office and i noticed this Speed Bracelet. So i get all excited, i run (almost..) and grab his wrist.

That fraction of a second lasted for 2 hours...Like i said, i know the guy pretty well and i would never have thought he would wear a fake........ :?

So while i was turning his wrist (and since i know the guy pretty well) i was fooling around and saying "How much did you pay for THAT? (still all excited and convinced it was a legitimate B)....Then i saw not a fake...but a FRANKENWATCH (is that the word?) with that FREAKIN fake tourbillon window... My face ----

He answered "Not has much as a rolex.."

I never said anything but i think he saw my facial expression. We never talked about it again, and he never wore it again at work.

Like most of us I've called quite a few on Ebay and a couple of times in second hand shops but never actually seen one on someone's wrist. I think i'd go for the...

"That's an interesting Breitling; where'd you get it? Did it come with it's papers? Did you pay a lot for it?" to give them the chance to fess up.

Not sure i'd call them on it anyway. Life's too short for an argument... unless it's a mate you can have some fun with... :brewing:

My sister is wealthy - she will only wear fake jewelry, she figures everyone thinks it's real so why not.

I was recently asked to sit in on a sale with a friend and a stranger selling a blinged out Chronomat the guy was asking $ 5 grand . so first thing I saw was that the date did not sit in the window properly , buddy told that's how they all are , I rolled up my cuff and showed him mine , second the bracelet had rounded caps on the screw ends (on the links) Breitlings are flat. ,checked the diamonds with a jewellers loop this seemed to bug this dude the longer I took checking each stone (hoping one was real ) nope none real. then I tried to get the rotor to move sounded really bad and that's when I made a offer that he take it off Craig's list and stop trying to pawn this piece of crap off as real or get boot F_ _ KED . he fled.
