I would agree with rolex as I dont like them at all- but good advertising gets them a huge market share and I am sure they are more than happy with it

Couldn't agree more, What a boring watch brand!!

Most will say Rolex is overrated ,I say those people have never owned a Rolex ,sure the air king and day date are kind of boring , but once you put a Gmt,Sub,Seadweller,Yacht,Daytona on you can tell a world of difference. I used to be a guy who hated Rolex but the Deepsea changed my whole view on Rolex. Don't just hate the name!!!!

I truly do dislike Tag though, tried them on before my Breitling days, they did nothing for me.

Movado is a fashion brand in my eye ,and should just stick with there UNBELIEVABLY boring museum design. The Chronos they make are awful, and there bracelets hurt me just looking at them.

The most overpriced watch that no one wears is EBEL, there prices are nutssssss, I also think they own Movado.

Of all the watch brands Rolex has its act together more than any other.
Its almost as if it were a different product.
I have two bought used and can get every penny back if not more when I sell.
A "FREE" watch.
Nothing else compares.
Everyone knows what a Rolex is.

Actually, I think the Rolex value proposition is about to be tested a little bit. The old 36 mm Datejusts seem to be losing value more now. I sold an old one and the market was softer than in the past. On the other hand, I would swear my GMT has bumped up in value because you can't get the pepsi or coke bezels anymore. I do not like the blue ceramic bezel on the two-tone Sub and I think the old blue metal bezel may hold value. I'm curious, though, to see what will happen to the "old" stainless Subs. Personally, I think the "old" Deepsea is going to go way up (already has to some extent). I wonder about the "old" (soon, anyway) white dial Explorer IIs. Yachtmaster looks as strong as ever. That's the product of a solid watch and all the marketing, moreso than technical quality of the watch. But make no mistake, it's a great watch.

When I bought my two-year old GMT back when for $3K out the door, retail was around 4. Now you see 6-month old Subs or GMTs that are now, what, around $9K (?) selling for mid to upper $6s. That seems like a big drop for a Rolex ( I know, the percentage of mine was more, but the difference now could nearly buy a used Rolex) and a concern that they may reach a tipping point on their pricing. I do agree that holding value is a big part of the Rolex reputation. The price increases could damage this.

I also think certain models of a brand do just as well. A Navitimer purchased used still seems to keep value, and I think the right Omega SMP does, too. The one I bought for $1450 eight years ago and later traded would cost me probably $1,250 on the used market now, and that's far less of an investment overall than with a Rolex.

I'm assuming that was meant tongue n' cheek because Breguet is one of the finest watches in existence.

I'm guessing he meant that's what the average person would say. I absolutely cannot stand Movado and hate it when I go into a store and people try to sell me them. I recently went into a store wearing my Steelfish and had a guy try to sell me a Fossil cause I needed a "nicer watch". I just told him I liked mine, but thanks for the advice.

Ill go out on a limb here and say that Rolex might actually be the LEAST overrated brand. Ok, all watches over $500 are a rip-off. Aside from precious metals and hand works, the majority of watches are essentially the same crap. With a Rolex, you get more value in the prestige, recognition, and durability categories than any other watch out there (not to mention that they are as in-house as you can get). While they are not even close to being the "best" watch you can buy, they are at least as good as anything in their same category.

I'm sure it wasn't a "watch store.". Lol

Definitely I'll agree with that sentiment... overall value is a very important IMO... yes people can say they're boring, too many fakes, etc. but Rolex is what Rolex is...

they do make a really fine watch...

Well if we are going to talk about underrated brands...then I would like to throw GO in the mix. I don't think that they get the respect they deserve. They make some incredible timepieces with beautiful finish and decoration for the price.

HAVE to agree! I'm not the "expert" most of you guys are, but I NEVER understood the value of a Movado.

I don't see any appeal in them as well. I don't even think they look nice so in my book they have absolutely nothing going for them as a company.

:yeahthat

As for the original question, Tag does come to mind for me. They never did anything for me and the bracelets are way too futuristic for my taste. Aside from the rich military history and in-house movement, IMO I would have to say Panerai is a bit over-rated only after Sly started wearing them in the 90s. Hope its more than just a fad and they stick around for a long time. In my eyes they've just become extremely popular as of late. I know I will get thrown under the bus for saying that so please be gentle :poke:
