Good info there Altair as always, and a good point about the 386's weight!

Now I freely admit I'm certainly no authority on Panerai models, so feel free to shoot me down on this, but why isn't the 386 considered a contemporary model as it's basically a composite 312? :huh

The 386 will have the quick change strap system and it is a contemporary model, I thought you ment the Luminors in this post, sorry!

About the weight issue, as someone who was also obbsessed about weight I just have a little bit of experience to share. I have found that watches only feel too light initially, especially so at the AD. Once you wear a lighter/heavier watch for a while it ceases to be an issue. Balance on the other hand is a big issue for me.

Sorry for the confusion, Altair. It was my fault talking about a watch not in your pics!

However, I'm sure I've seen a picture of the back of the 386 and it definitely didn't look like it had the quick strap change system. Maybe the composite can't accomodate it for some reason.

No love for the 249?? With that collection of Panerai's I would've figured one of these would've been thrown into the mix!

Still loving the 372, they got that one just right. Plexiglass and all.

I like those RG Rads too, despite not normally being a big fan of either RG or Rads.

Your right, at least as far as the Panerai website. I can only guess that this is a goof on the part of Panerai, as I cant imagine that this watch will not have a quick strap system. They have been particularly consistent with their usage of screws on all historic models vs. the use of the system on contemporary models. I made a quick post on Paneristi and hopefully we will get some clarification but I remain confident that when the models do hit the streets they will be equipped with the quick strap change system.

Had that one and the 127 and sold em both, way too much money for way too simple a watch IMO. Sure the historic and collectible aspect is all there, but that accounts for about 75% of the value. If these where regular production they would cost about 5-6K, in fact thats what they cost when they where released as LEs....

Driver, it seems the verdict is tsill out untill teh first production pieces are actually out. But from what I have read, it seems that although the quick strap change system has never been available on the Historic models, it also is not necessarily available in the contemporary collection. To confuse things even more, this changes from year to year. For instance the 317 used to come with a PVD movement, and now has the smoked glass back instead. Also the 233 used to have the DOT indicator, and now comes with the AM/PM, little changes that corespond to manufacturing costs and the such, maybe it is an issue with the system being more dificult to accomidate in cases made out of exotic materials as you had guessed, maybe something else. I do hope Panerai eventually include the system in all their watches as it is far superior to the traditional methods!

On another note, my AD just got back to me with confirmed prices for three pieces that I had ordered:

PAM372 $10,100
PAM375 $12,900
PAM382 $9,300

Thats retail in US, and I was told to expect a discount on all three. I am guessing somewhere between 10-20%, hopefully 20. I know there is no way theu would offer 25% on high desirability models, and nowhere they would offer me less than 10%....

All in all very good prices and I am happy! The prices for all three would cost me less than the AP I am planning to get!!! I know I have said this before, but bravo Panerai! They are able to offer me a composite LE, a Bronze LE, and a regular production new design, all with great in house movements, all for less than 27,000 USD. And they can get away with higher and still seel out in an instance!

By the way, my AD told me that I am the very first US order on teh above three!!! :cheer: Going to be a long wait till September though

One more watch to shed some focus on, although not something I would consider, and I suspect not for all of us, it is an amazing watch!

The PAM 319 is the most extreme watch produced by Panerai I think, it has an awesome split second in house chrono coupled with 8 days of power reserve. The movement is unbelievably large and thick, hence the 47MM diameter and 17 inch thickness + 3mm crystal for a total of 20mm height

Just take a look at the live side view, dont forget this is a huge 47mm case and it still looks unnaturally thick!!! And the 3mm crystal looks normal as well.

Looks like you would need someone to help you life that huge crown!

Image

Plus its in highely polished and brushed rose gold! not exactely stealthy or understated

Image

People who have handled it at SIHH report that it is HEAVY! and unbelievably larger than you would think even, I have to say I love the absurdity of it all! Though it really isnt a wearable watch,, and at a cool 43000 retail I better wear it!

I know, I am still shocked at how well priced these are! Composite is fair, but the Bronzo and base are astonishing value!

Panerai really stepped their game up this year with these new releases. I agree that the bronzo and base are a great value...I just wish that the base was 45mm instead of 47mm. That is just too big for me to pull off.

On the upside, I also really like the composite...and it is sized perfectly for me!!
