Good to know and yes, I agree with much you stated!
I will be on my honeymoon this coming September in St. Lucia and I wanted to bring my (soon to arrive) Navi World along with my CE. (I figured I would have a "day watch" and a nice "night watch")I wanted to see everyones thoughts on this before I did something wrong. This also got me thinking...when bringing multiple watches, do you tend to wear the more expensive one on your wrist?

You're on your honeymoon, what watch you'll be wearing shouldn't be something to think about.

I don't know, to me dragging $10k worth of watches along with you on vacation is just asking for something bad to happen. If it were me I'd just stick with the CE and throw it on a bracelet if you have one so you can get it wet. As for the additional straps, I can see it now "hold on for five minutes honey while I change the strap on my watch before we head out to dinner"..... haha if that won't get you laid I don't know what will.

I agree it may seem overkill and that the CBP has their hands full with bigger fish to fry, but I try to avoid dealing with "Murphy's Law" as much as possible. My situation is a tad different as I work in Iraq and don't go back home but about every 6 months or so. I have a number of watches that roll with me when I make the journey to and fro. The last thing I want to deal with is being hassled coming back home. :guns:

Your situation is a bit different than the average traveler. It's as if you are taking temporary residence in a foreign country, (which you are). So in order to enjoy your collection you bring a few of your watches as well as other personal items along with you, and declare them in advance, which makes complete sense.

If I'm going on my honeymoon our vacation I make sure to bring only one watch. While on such trips money tends to flow more freely and I always hope to come back with a little extra something, and it ain't crabs.

There are different exemptions for such instances by the way. I think it's anything bought and used, overseas, for over a year is also exempt from duty, (might only pertain to household items). Don't quote me on that one though.

If I travel internationally, I take one watch - my BlackBird. It has some good scuffs on the clasp and a few dings on the chimney and bezel - I would hope that anyone with half a brain at customs would realize that I didn't fly halfway around the world to buy a dinged up watch

Haha I hear ya... That is the point though, there would be no changing straps, just watches. As for getting lucky, i'll let you know how that works out too!

You are correct sir about my situation being different than the average traveler. I do not declare them in advance, but I do have paperwork with me in case I'm stopped. This is not only for the US Customs, but other countries I may pass through on my way back and forth....just in case. The original question posted by mrcheatle was:

mrcheatle wrote:
When traveling with your watch(s)... I was told it is a smart idea to bring receipts with you, is this true?

For example, If I were to travel to St. Lucia with my watch's for a vacation, while returning if customs notices a watch in my carry-on and I don't have a receipt showing that is was indeed purchased in the US. I could have some issues and it may pose a problem.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hence my earlier post, which is the Official CPB answer regarding his question which came directly from their website. For folks that are passing to and fro with more than one watch, it would be prudent to at least have some documentation with them as a precaution. In reality most people will probably never experience any problems, but all it takes is one time of getting stopped and questioned by some over zealous CPB officer. With the proper documents you can rest easy that you are covered just in case.....too easy. :)

Any pornography? Probably.

So you admit to the possibility that you're transporting pornography across a national border, and he's worried about your watch. I don't know why I was worried about terrorists smuggling stuff in from the north. Sounds like they've got the situation well under control.
