Are there titanium 1911s? How much do they weigh?

EDIT:

And while we're here, let me add to my comments. I can tell the difference when holding or firing an aluminum 1911 versus a steel one. But that's not why the aluminum ones are advertised as being aluminum. They're advertised as being easier to carry, and I can't tell a difference of six ounces in an object attached to my belt, much like I can't tell a difference of 40 or 50 grams in an object attached to my wrist.

Ha, I'm an idiot, for some reason I thought that you wrote titanium not aluminum.

I know that there are titanium frame 1911's, I read about them somewhere, but I'm sure that they're 1: expensive as hell and 2: few and far between.

Anyway, back on topic.

How do we keep getting on the topic of guns??? :guns:

Back to the OP. I just ordered my first watch that has titanium on it, a JLC Extreme Alarm which uses grade 5 titanium. I'm looking forward to seeing how it is finished, from Altair's review it's supposed to be exceptionally well done.

I wish Breitling would makea tungsten carbide case!! That would be the perfect material for the Seawolf, Avenger, or Steelfish.....but then it would have to be called the Tungfish!!

I imagine they're rare. I've never seen one. I know Kimber doesn't make one. Les Baer doesn't. Pretty sure Springfield doesn't. If you order a gun from Wilson Combat, you get a choice of what you want your frame and slide made from, but none of those choices are titanium.

Apparently Caspian, which I have absolutely no experience with, makes a titanium frame 1911. I guess titanium isn't really good for semi-autos because of the wear and tear between the frame and the slide, something about the friction between the two. Whatever, I really don't know, I just heard about it. Personally I prefer a steel 1911 because of the weight. Anyway, enough about guns from me.

Just like I prefer the weight of the SS watches I also prefer the weight of steel in my guns. It really is beneficial when I run out of bullets or don't want to waste a bullet and have to use it as a club to persuade someone to lay down and go to "sleep". :guns:

I hope you're in law enforcement.

I'd be interested in seeing a study of how many high-end watch enthusiasts are also gun owners/enthusiasts. Purely anecdotally, this site would suggest there might be a link between the two, and it would make sense that a generalized appreciation of mechanical instruments might tend to lead to an interest in both watches and guns. I would not consider myself a gun enthusiast, per se, but I do have two handguns (a Kimber 1911 Pro Carry II and a Smith & Wesson .38 Airweight), in addition to a concealed carry permit.

Jackson...no I'm not in law enforcement sir and I'm not a real gun enthusiast either, but I do enjoy the guns I own, most of which are hunting guns. Actually I am more into Traditional Archery, IE Longbows & Recurves with wood arrows, I used to own a Traditional Archery shop some years back. The beauty and grain of the woods used to make these bows and their intrinsic qualities makes each piece a one off, which adds to the allure of the sport. One can take great pride in owning one of these bows knowing that there isn't another exactly like it anywhere in the world. The history of the bow is fascinating to say the least and using a stick and string to hunt with is an awesome experience. It's another one of those things that can get a person addicted just like being a WIS can. :D

Newbie question here: what does WIS stand for? I've gathered through context it refers to a watch enthusiast, but I haven't found a specific definition anywhere. (And I have looked, at least cursorily.)

I tried to keep my post somewhat related - making it about both guns and watches. Sorry...I'll back off the jack.

 That's alright guys - I've been known to stray a little off topic at times too! Not a big deal. If we were allowed to own firearms in the UK I'd have no doubt joined in!

You don't have the right to bear arms in UK?

Do you know if Breitling has any plans to make a Tungsten Carbide case? Or any other metals?
