OK, I can't talk worldwide, but lets say US - particularly up here in the NE corner

Robbed? Maybe - but a $100 bling looking watch is just as bad - and a plain looking multi K watch on a leather band probably OK

Kidnapping? Do you have ANY idea how RARE "stranger kidnapping" is in the USA? It's slightly more common now, near the border with Mexico due to the drug war, but I think that WILL backfire on the gangs, as if ANYTHING pushes a closing of the border, that will be it. The total is in the sub 1000 per year range

I hope someone can translate this to tell my point of view because my english sucks and sometimes it's difficult even with google translator because I speak argentinian spanish, not neutral spanish.
And I'm really tired of Palantas and mfserge.

Leave me out of this dude. I posted one comment on your statement of being robbed because of wearing an expensive watch. I stand by my point in that it doesn't matter what you're wearing, you can be a victim of crime at any given time no matter whats on your wrist, feet, or around your neck. If you disagree with that, then that's fine, we can debate that like adults, but there is no need to call me out for no reason.

By the way...I never 'attacked' you. I stated my opinion that I disagree with your connection between wearing an expensive watch and being kidnapped. If you lost respect for me for stating my opinion then I'm sorry, but it's how I feel and judging by the results of this poll, a lot of people also feel the same way.

I never said that by wearing a nice watch YOU WILL get abducted.
Don't you know what an example is?
Can't you read in spanish what I wrote? Oh it's a shame...
And as I said to mrcheatle... did you forgot your first post on that thread... and you critize mrcheatle of making fun of Crasian?

We recently had a very tragic death locally by a college student who killed himself by jumping off the George Washington Bridge because he was being made fun of his sexuality. He was actually secretely video taped then was made fun of. When it comes to bullying and making fun of people, I take that very seriously and it serves absolutely NO PURPOSE in our society.

Your initial post made the following connections:

expensive watch = being rich = getting kidnapped = being killed- and then the criminals finding out you aren't rich. I just don't agree with that. If you're walking around in an inner city with a blinged out breitling full of diamonds....you can make yourself more of a target. YES I will give you that. But a lot of 10k watches you wouldn't even know they cost that much and I don't feel you are more or less likely to be a target by wearing one.

I say you should be looking for a 20k watch!!!! Forget the 10k childs-play toys!!!! :yeahthat If you can't afford it then just charge it....that's what credit cards are for. Type this word into your google english/spanish dictionary.

FACETIOUS. In english it means: not to be taken seriously or literally. Hence the reason for the 'poke' emoticon at the end of the statement.

Gentlemen,

I find myself having to reference this thread for the second time in 24 hours - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=855

Apparently it's too much effort to read all of that so let me post a highlight - it's in bold in that thread as well:

And FINALLY, Please respect your fellow posters! Not everyone is the same as you or has the same opinion as you, so please try and be open-minded. Respect other people's opinions and they will respect yours. Name-calling and insults are childish and have no place on this forum.

The last time I checked this was a watch forum and we are all fortunate to be able to spend some time discussing watches. This site is becoming fairly large and we have members with different nationalities, ages, languages, etc - that's what adds to the community.

However, there have been a lot of personal comments in the last few days, and a lot of comments that have been interpreted as personal by the people they were directed at, that's simply not acceptable. There is an expectation here that you will be respectful to other posters and that requires a level of maturity that recently seems to have been exhibited a lot more by one of our youngest members than it has by some people who claim to have more life experiences and therefore feel able to give him advice.

I am locking this and the related thread and I strongly suggest that people think before posting.
