I've gotta say, but The Freak is still my all time favourite UN. Just an incredible looking thing. And all for a "mere" £43K GBP  (From Chrono24 I should add - http://www.chrono24.com/en/search/index ... mresults=6 From an AD, it's a little more!)

And just on the PP/AP topic, I must be honest, but after trying on a number of PP's at my AD (including a Nautilus), I have to say that none of them did anything for me at all. Like Roff said, I can (and do) fully appreciate the craftmanship, etc, but the styling and size do absolutely nothing for me at all.

But while I'm not the worlds biggest AP fan, I must confess to liking the ROO series a lot, and the Safari is probably the best IMO. I think that hornback strap goes superbly well with the cream dial. (Now all AP need to do is put a FULLY in-house movement in it, and it'd then be an absolute must have).

I received the UN catalogue today. Talk about record time; I only ordered it last night. Certainly the most efficient receipt of a catalogue I've ever experienced. As a curiosity I've now ordered the A. Lange and Sohn catalogue twice and haven't received either. I'm not that bothered as I could probably never justify the cost but still if you're going to make the offer, please provide. But I digress. I have a new Grail. The Genghis Khan Westminster Carillon Tourbillon Jaquemarts Minute Repeater (Exceptional timepiece collection). Absolutely, truly, totally and utterly stunning, a true work of art in my books. Very affordable at, oh wait, north of $500,000, more like $750,000. What a watch!

On a more affordable note I also like the San Marco Classico Collection and Marine Cchronometer collection. Can't wait to try one on!

I was in a hurry at work yesterday, but today I've had a chance to have a longer look at these... and I really, really like almost every single one of them.

Being a dive watch nut, I just LOVE the Hammerhead and the new MMD. If one of those happened to be anywhere nearby when my next paycheck arrives, there would be trouble.

As I've posted elsewhere, I'm in the market for another diver, and nothing has struck me as much recently as these models (and in that statement I am including the new Aquatimer, the new Superocean, and the new Submariner).

I'm still a huge fan of the Executive Dual Time too, but I must say I prefer the black dial versions.

The distribution in Australia for UN is virtually non-existent (one AD which supposedly has almost no stock) so perhaps next time I go overseas I'll have a look.

Rather than put this into the general Basel thread I thought I would give UN a separate thread here forsome more attention.

There is a current discussion in the Breitling forum about what we would like to see from Breitling in terms of direction, well looking at UN in recent years I'm forced to compare and see two companies going in completely opposite directions. UN has a higher average price for sure, but they are taking their heritage and evolving it in exciting new ways that result in some truly spectacular pieces. The latest freak with a tourbillon inside a tourbillon is mind blowing, but even among their 'normal' watches, they have what I think are some truly incredible pieces.

As a company they are really pushing the envelope with the use of silicon and even with little things UN is showing industry leadership - the ability to report a stolen watch online - these guys flat out get it. I wouldn't buy every one of their watches this year, but money allowing I wouldn't leave many out.

Marcus Hanke has done a great photo review from Basel at the Purists - http://basel.watchprosite.com/show-foru ... 98781/s-0/

Have you seen the latest offering from Tag? Seems like Tag is going more upscale while Breitling is regressing to Tag level. Disturbing...

Yeah, I can't see Tag abandoning what got them where they are, but clearly expanding upwards. There would seem to be some opportunities to capture a share of that market if Breitling are moving away from that core.

are all their new models made with in-house movements?

I'm a big fan of this one. I just wish it were a few mm larger

Well now that's an interesting querstion.

UN have long use ETA and Lemania bases but they don't just modify them - they completely redesign them The UN-32 GMT movement is technically a Lemania 1340 but it's actually been redesigned by UN to be thinner than the original. Some would argue that some pieces are generic, some would argue that they are all in house - these aren't always clear cut.
