Very sexy looking piece. Can't see that making it's way into a stainless steel model though.

That UN is smooth, I'd wear it. :D

And the Bell & Ross radar watch is very, very cool.

Peace

therer have been a few out this year that i like, none Breitling!!!! the only one id buy (price dependant) from this year show is likely the Patek 5170 i think its lovely as a dress watch and timeless.

others ive really liked include

Glashütte Original PanoMatic Counter XL although doubt id every use the counter
Glashütte Original Senator Diary although it looks so thick

the new offerings from Bell and Ross look good although if im gonna step from breitling for something i wouldnt step laterally only up to something technically strong and in the A Class (my a class) hence the Patek

surprising tag have some interesting new kit although if i bought i wouldnt wear them as id always rather have a B on the wrist.

none of my current watches are dress specific so thats where the Patek would fit in!

other than that ill have a look to IWC and Panerai at some point to add to my daily wearers

Hmm...so what about this new "in house" movement by TAG, the calibre 1887?
Image

I read that there are suspicions this is largely a modified Seiko 6S37? Any confirmations of this?

I am just curious if there are any functional advantages to this movement vs. a 7750. I can't find much info on it on the web, other than one forum in which someone mentions that the Seiko (not the TAG) feels a lot more smooth and refined than the 7750 (for a high-end Seiko movement, I would totally believe this).

Well it was in the magazines a couple of months ago so not really a Basel announcement.

It is based on a Seiko design - TC78, and it's not really ground breaking - if the base movement had been Swiss no one would have batted an eyelid. Tag have upgraded the escapement to a Nivarox one and they have slightly enlarged the plates (diameter and height). The vibrating pinion that they seem to make so much of in the media is hardly revolutionary - Heuer invented it in 1887 and to my mind the more important inclusion is Seiko's magic lever that increases winding efficiency.

Not particularly affordable unfortunately, but De Witt has come out with some very nice pieces again:

http://watch-happening.blogspot.com/201 ... demia.html

This next one's truly special. The Tourbillon Force Constante was a true ground breaking movement when it was announced four years ago and this latest version adds a chain to transfer power - an incredible piece.

Some of the independents have also started to push their new pieces, I need to spend a bit more time understanding which ones are truly new as opposed to just different cosmetic presentations of previous year's pieces, but it looks like an exciting year from the independents.

Nice looking pieces from De Witt Roff.

Will be interested to hear your thoughts. As an example I've read that Bremont have released both a Supermarine and U-2 that look really quite good but whether they're new or not??

You'll have to create a Basel 2010 favourites thread :D

Yeah Supermarine Descent (DLC coated dive watch) and the U-2. More look and feel pieces than anything else - there's nothing spectacular going on inside (generic movements), but the U-2 is a nice looking piece - pictures here (which you could see better with some AR!!) - http://forum.atgvintagewatches.com/show ... php?t=2068

That's always subjective, but might try and find the time to do a review of some of the independents when I can get to see all of the pieces - it's tough relying on other people's reviews / photos when it's still happening because there are fewer sources.

I have to acknowledge one particular independent though who really push the boat out - Angular Momentum. Best coverage is by the Purists - warning, this is not for vieweing with kids around, and you may not want to look at it from work (that'll get the hits up) - http://basel.watchprosite.com/?show=for ... 598181&s=0

I'm not going to point out the 'artistic' piece, rather the Freehand watches - not my taste, but an awesome concept. I also love the latest Color-Tec, that red colour is incredible, and the shot of the side of the case really shows it well. Angular Momentum worked with Johan Gustafsson a Swedish knife maker on their damascus steel designs, and he has also now partnered with a Swedish watch maker on his own brand - www.goswatches.com.

The watches that Angular Momentum produce aren't for everyone, but I admire the fact that they are prepared to push the envelope constantly and challenge themselves to produce something innovative every year. Pricing isn't cheap, and as you would expect the painted enamels can get expensive, but you can find more mainstream Angular Momentums for less than $5,000.

They're certainly very arty. I like that they're different but not for me based on a glance. Having just said that I do wonder what they would look like on my wrist.

Not sure how I feel about this one, but new Omega PloProf white dial. I think I like it, but not as much as the black one.

I don't know, I actually quite like the colour, I think it works. I'm not a great fan of the PloProf though so my admiration is somewhat limited.

Like the man said - it looks a bit feminine on a white strap like that. Still, the head looks ok, but I agree with you Rof, black is nicer. For the money of a PP, I'd buy 2-3 Breitlings.

I came across this the other day as well, but was on my iPhone at the time so didn't take the time to post it here.

I'm not a fan of the white Ploprof AT ALL! And that white rubber strap is indeed very feminine looking IMO, which is totally at odds with the Ploprof itself as I still think it's the most manly watch you'll ever see. It might work a bit better on the orange strap, but the black rubber or mesh is the definite way to go if you really MUST have a white dial Ploprof.

However, the black dial is an absolute no-brainer and must have IMO.
