ive seen and handled a couple of u boats and they dont come up to the manufacturing standards of the breitling or tag i own or the omegas, Rolex's, IWC'ss ive handled. i think maybe its down to the fact that u-boat is a much newer brand than these and that its italian made and not swiss, and the use the bog-standard movements. also they dont have any serial numbers at all and u-boat dont keep any records.

The materials feel like a tin can crafted into a military watch. I just didn't walk away with a feeling of "wow, solid, precision, rugged, etc.

However, that is based on the newer models I was able to actually see/handle. Perhaps some of the older models pulled off a better experience? I don't know.

Mine is a new one, and it is crafted from 316L stainless, and is in fact marked right on the case, next to the serial numbers that maverick says they do not have. As you guys know, 316L Stainless is the EXACT same kind of steel that Breitling, Tag and Omega uses. Just as Sapphire is the EXACT same kind of crystal all these brands use.

The machining is PERFECT on my U-Boat, the steel is solid, and weighs a ton. I can take tons of close up pics to illustrate this and can weigh the watch head to show that its not a "tin can". I think its all in your heads :nana:

The other point to note is that U-Boat is actualy cheaper than many of these brands.

Ive never handled one, but I checked one out in the case at my AD and the leather strap was noticeably cheap-o in my opinion. I didnt really look at the machining so I dont really have any comment on that.

I had the 45mm White dial Classico, and just had a bad experiance with the watch, thats the only reason why I think they are not a well made brand...I wore the watch for 2 weeks and the crown protector and the screw where you screw the protector on fell off completely as one piece. I took it to get serviced and was told that Uboat wont repair under warranty because it looks like it was dropped or bumped, funny thing I never dropped it or bumped it. So, my friend bought the watch from me at half of what I spent and he repaired the problem for another 250.00 at the dealer. Best loss I've ever taken!....he's had it serviced 3 times in 1 year, the movement and the crown keeps giving him problems. Nice looking but I won't buy another one.
