I'm thinking of grabbing a secong watch for rougher use than what I'd want for my Navi World,

I've been thinking of a few different ones:

Omega Seamaster 300 M Chronometer
Omega Seamaster 300 M GMT
Brietling SuperOcean Heritage

Do you guys know what these watches go for?

I have the 300M Chrono and decided to get a watch for rougher use like you are thinking. I ended up getting the SO44.

I think the 300M Chrono is a lot of watch for the $$. At the same time, after I began wearing it outside of work, I thought it was too nice to subject it to possible harm

I guess it depends on what you mean by "rough" but I would possibly get a Quartz movement. Think you can get a used SMP for around £600 - £700, maybe a G Shock would be a better option as they are really cheap and it would not matter if it got wrecked.

Rough use needs a brushed finish, that rules out the SOH. At that level, a quartz Seamaster comes to mind. Not that I'd use it roughly if I had one, though.

I want automatic, not quartz.

You could check out Ball watches, they are automatic and offer a good level of shock protection. but I think that I possibly would not want to rough up any watch I have paid around a £1000 plus on as I do not have a huge watch budget, if you do then get what ever watch takes your fancy. If it has been clearly bought as a beater then it does not really matter which as all the watches you mention are in the same ball park really price wise and will probably stand up to similar amounts of abuse.

Fair enough. Auto Seamaster then, can't go past them for all purpose duty and they can be picked up second hand for a good price. I may be about to pick up one myself, and this is from someone who has previously owned 3 seamasters and a SOH.

For true rough use the only watch I cannot destroy is a G-shock.
For weekend play a used Ball would be ideal. My Ball Trieste is actually too nice for weekend play that it was bought it for.
Looking for a $700 used Ball now. Or a classic dive watch pehaps a Seiko but I'd like something a bit more unique.
BTW polished stainless is better IMO as it can be polished out and match easier than a brushed finish.
I guess it depends on your definition of rough, priorities, and pocket depth.

Hmmmm, if you're looking at the likes of the Omega Seamaster and Brietling SuperOcean Heritage, you're still obviously looking at fairly high-end.

However if you wanted to go a little lower down the price range, I can heartily recommend the Lum-Tec tungsten watches for toughness. I have an M25 and the polished tungsten is as close to scratch proof as you can get with metal, plus it has sapphire crystal and an ETA 2824 movement. I've owned one for almost a year now and used it as a semi-beater, and it's still in absolutely 100% MINT condition - not a scratch or even a swirlie in sight. All watches should be made of tungsten!

I really love the look of the Omega and SuperOcean, very clean and beautiful. Plus, they come standard with SS bracelets, which is a must for me. Can't stand straps.
