I have been following Maximillian Busser for a few years now - the guy is an absolute genius among young watchmakers and when he went out on his own five years ago he really decided to try and set the horological world on its head. One of hte things that he wanted to do was produce a completely different watch every year - not just a new use for the same movement, but new from start to finish.

He called his pieces Horological Machines - HM for short, and he has managed to keep to his target of one per year since he unveiled HM1 in 2007. He has just released HM4 - the Thunderbolt, and like all of his pieces it's going to be polarizing. Personally, I think that this is his best piece yet and I will be buying one as soon as I remember what I did with the spare $158,000 that I need.

I have seen the four H's before. Wasnt this just one the cover of the new IW Magazine? Or one of the last few issue I think.

For all the detail and what you get honestly..$150,000 doesnt seem out of line at all.

Yeah, I've seen the HMs, too. They are truly incredible pieces, however, would you really wear them? They seem like collector's items; not really watches that can be worn, even on special occasions. That's jsut my opinion, they are just way out there, and I'm not talking about just the price

I can see where your coming from..Im sure most people who do buy any of them are true watch collectors and usually arent just spur of the moment "hey I like that watch, it'll go great with jeans and a t-shirt." However, I am the type of collector for the most part that uses what I collect. I would def wear it!

Interesting, looks like a jet-pack, but I could never see myself spending that much on a watch. I can't even see myself spending that much on a car, and that drives and has a clock in it.

Fantastic watch! Every HM is amazing but that Thunderbolt is my favorite!

They really are the pinnacle of innovative watchmaking in my opinion, but they are both out of my scope of interest and financial ability. they are obviously made for the watch enthusiast who has the funds to have tried every other watch he fancies. Most of us would get excited and overjoyed when a new Breitling, IWC, or JLC falls in our laps (or a Panerai, even if that means inventing a "my wife wants one" story to warrant the purchase) for some people who are rich enough and have been doing this long enough it probably takes something that unique to get the same feeling.

Personally I am content enjoying his creations as I would a fine piece of art, and keep on hunting for my next sub 20K watch

Not quite in that league.

I understand the sentiment exactly though - the more I find 'different' watches, the more they appeal to me. There comes a point when too many watches are like I already have.

I'm not going to be able to spend the money on an MB&F - but I certainly won't rule one out at some point in the future (resale prices drop considerably).

An interesting history and definitely an interesting watch. Not what you'd call an everyday wear but it looks good in its own way. Scary pricing though. Thanks for introducing me to the brand.

I appreciate what it takes to make a watch like this but to tell the truth I would be much happier with the full arsenal of Lings I could buy with the price on that baby!
