Very true. As we've said before, watch winders (while being very useful) can be a total minefield to the average buyer. As you rightly said, not all winders are equal, but a lot also depends on the efficiency of the winding mechanism in the watch - again, not all are equal. The weight of the watch can also have an impact as some cheaper winders struggle with the mass of something like an SA on the bracelet.
In terms of finding something that works, I personally really like the gravity driven models made by the likes of Sparta as they swing with watch in a similar way to when it's actually on the wrist. It's about as close to natural movement as you can get.
