Just got a new Hamilton X-Wind the other day and am noticing a LOT of noise when the rotor is turning on the movement. Now, I admit that I'm used to wearing my Submariner, which you might need a stethoscope to hear even when it's winding, but still...

Good example: I spend all day in front of a computer. When I reach for the mouse, the rotor may do a couple full revolutions. I can hear it turning if my office is quiet; that's about 18" from my wrist to my ear in a normal sitting position, and the sound is loud enough for me to pick up.

I bought from an AD so I've got the full warranty, should I be calling Hamilton? Or is it normal on an automatic in this range and I'll get used to it in a couple days?

The Hamilton is probably using the Valjoux/ETA 7750 movement which is notoriously loud. The Rolex Subbie by comparison is notoriously quiet! I'd say it's perfectly normal and yes you will get used to it very quickly. In fact you may even grow to love it like the rest of us! Just think of it as your watch "breathing"!

Yep, it's a 7750 alright. As long as it doesn't start snoring, I can tolerate its breathing.

I have had a few Val 7750's and I have two X-winds...I wouldn't say they are noisy, but maybe in a quiet situation as your describing and in comparison to your Sub maybe. You can definately hear the swirl of the rotor as it goes around if you move just right, but that's normal. I particularly like the characteristics of the stout 7750...feels like you have a big piece of moving mechanical watch on your wrist! I can usually feel it more than hear it.
Enjoy it's movement, it's a nice watch.
Chris
