What's the general consensus on this brand? I know they used to be a great American watch company, but I've recently read that folks are starting to think they are kind of hokey now and not made nearly as well as in the past. Thoughts? And I thank you fine people in advance!

I had one and even then (pre-Breitling) I considered it average. They have a certain classic look to them, but many better watches can say that. Sorry, guess I am quite ambivalent about them. Unlike my unwavering lust for more Breitlings!!!!! :lingsrock:

I'm a lot more familiar with their older pieces than the modern ones, understandable given my vintage interest I guess. I don't have anything solid to back it up, but my impression of current pieces is that they are trying to live off their reputation from the past - maybe unfair, but that's the sense I get.

Chip, I only have experience with the X-Wind. For me it has been a great piece in my collection. The build and overall quality was better than I expected when I purchased the watch. It wears well and attracts a lot of comments. Oh yea, it keeps excellent time.

I will second what Fagan said. I have two X-Winds (a Rose Gold LE and a Black dial)and the quality of the watch is par with other watches that cost 3 x what the X-Wind costs. Now, this is the only model I have personal experience with, so I can't speak on their other stuff, but for the money, you can get some pretty solid pieces with stout 7750 movements. They have a classic style in their line.
