Yesterday we rode the Jungfraubahn, a rail line that runs to 3454m on the Jungfrau. At that elevation is a large visitors center with restaurants, gift shops and a tour that goes into a glacier (which was really cool). The train runs through the Eiger and the terminal station is in the tunnel. It's a little surreal. On exiting the train, one of the first things I saw was this:

Only in Switzerland would an ad for luxury watches be in that place. One of the gift shops had a display of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches! I don't know which models they have because I skipped that gift shop - my wife told me about it. First thing I said was, "Are they an authorized dealer? At 3500m?" [The JLCs are, I believe, being sold by Kirchhofer, an AD in nearby Interlaken.]

I don't know if anyone else will find this interesting but I thought it was fantastic.

As you say: Only in Switzerland.

Have you ever been to Geneva Airport? It's like one big luxury watch outlet with a lot of the high end Swiss brands having their own boutiques. And there are huge adverts for expensive watches everywhere.

Actually, it's a shop run by Kirchhofer AG who has two more boutiques in downtown Interlaken. He represents several brands, among them Breitling. When I tried to visit the one that is near the Kursaal las time I was there, it was so full of Chinese tourists that I only stayed a coupla minutes.

Also, is the huge Breitling ad still at the Kleine Sheidegg RR station?

I will post some pics when I find some time, including the ads that were/are at arrivals hall by the luggage carousels at Geneva airport.

I didn't notice a big Breitling ad at Kleine Scheidegg but I may have been distracted by the Eiger and the Jungfrau. Kirchhofer in Interlaken is impressive. And they are open on Sunday. Until 21:00 or 22:00. I wonder what hoops they had to jump through to make that happen?

You're right about ads in the Geneva airport: like a who's who of luxury watches. And if you take a cab from the airport to Rue du Rhône, you can find boutiques for most of those same companies. It's WIS heaven (or hell, depending on your bank balance).
