I made a trip up to Philly today primarily to see the ongoing van Gogh exhibit at the Philly Museum of Art. Along with watches, I am very, very into art and van Gogh is by far one of my favorite artists, so I had to make the trip to see the 40-some van Goghs! Anyways, I had some extra time before it was time to see the exhibit so I figured I'd visit the most talked about jeweler on the forum. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but the first question I asked when I walked in was: "Is this the Govberg's that George is at?" It was! (The Walnut Street location). Unfortunately, he wasn't there at the time but another gentlemen helped me out beyond my expectations. I have heard numerously over the forum about Govberg's exceptional service, and everyone here is absolutely spot on.

The store is very well kept. The watches are stored professionally (in this plastic covering (I have gone to some ADs that have covered their watches in clear scotch tape!! :O )). And the staff is very friendly and attentive. Starting off on the first floor, I looked around and found a few brands that appealed to me, but Rolex was definitely a focus here, and since I am not a fan, I moved on to the second floor. Much to my surprise, the staff that answered my "George" question followed me upstairs in case I had any questions! I was able to have some decent conversations with him, ranging from Basel to the watch on his wrist. Overall, I think I am going to purchase my first watch from Govberg's because they have all the brands that I have been looking at and the customer service, which is of the utmost importance to me, was just wow.

I do have one question though. I am not immediately able to purchase a watch, meaning that my first watch will take at least another year to obtain. So knowing that, is it still okay for me to take the time of an AD to let me try on watches? I really would love to see them more in person and handle the pieces but my mom always tells me not to as to not waste their time. I do know I will purchase my first watch from either Govberg's or Cellini's (an AD in NYC that I wrote about quite a while ago) but should I be closer, like maybe only a couple months away, to purchasing a watch before I start asking to try them on?

Absolutely!!! You are a potential customer whether you are buying tomorrow or not for 10 years of tomorrows. Good salespeople know that.

take all the time you need. and dont ever let any of the sales guys rush or talk you into anything. a purchase like this is special and for most people (myself included) its not an everyday item. enjoy the process the hunt is part of the enjoyment.

It looks like we were there the same day. George was there in the morning but then we went to the flyers game in the afternoon.

Another milestone!

Selling a watch is all about building a relationship. Any educated AD staff should be delighted to spend time with you and let you try on as many as you like. They may not get the deal that day but they are building a relationship with you that could last a lifetime and a few minutes today will be more than worthwhile when you buy your 100th watch from them in 25 years time

Problem is, not all salespeople are good. So, the hunt is on until you land the right person. The relation built is worth the search. At least, I do not regret the effort.
