I work I na corporate office in a healthcare company and aside from my watches, most People have cheap watches such as Swiss army etc. It used to baffle me as to why no one else had an expensive watch..........I'm surrounded by professionals.....but it just seems their are many people who don't place as high of a value on watches as they do cars or clothes etc.

I get out of my car in the office parking lot and I am surrounded by bmw's and Mercedes as I hit the alarm button for my ford mustang.....hmmm

Similar where I work - it's a luxury car parking lot, but everyone has a fairly inexpensive watch. I saw one Omega, and the rest are Tags or Movados.

I work in a prison so my Seiko is the only auto I've seen. My boss wears some ugly TT Movado but I'd take my Seiko over that thing any day. Other than that the most expensive watches I've seen are G-Shocks.

I work in IT and I can't recall seeing anyone with a decent watch, although I have seen a fair few with fake breitlings

I work in finance and it's always amazed me how few people have decent watches. There are a couple of Subs and PO's around the place, plus a few SMP's, and one Aerospace and one Panerai (just a base 111) that I can think of, but that's generally it. The Chief Financial Officer and CEO both wear pretty innocuous cheap watches.

The one exception is the Chief Operations Officer who wears an IWC Big Pilot St Exupéry LE. Next meeting I have with him I'm going to ask him about the timekeeping! (Come to think of it, he's always MEGA early to meetings. Hmmmmm........ )

In my office, one guy has a Rolex two-tone Thunderbird, another has a solid gold Sub, blue dial, but hasn't worn it in years, now wears a quartz Cyma. I'll have to ask him but I wonder if a client said something about the watch. Another, member of the unofficial chapter, has a stainless EVO. With over 40 attorneys, that's it. A couple guys have remarked from time to time about a Breitling I wore, and some women in my office really liked the Navi Heritage I owned. Then again, some of them know I have the sickness, and they keep an eye out for what's on the wrist. I don't know whether or how much they would notice otherwise.

I think the bigger question is 'What kind of watches does their boss wear?'. Their boss is pretty mysterious about the watches he owns.

I have one guy in my current office with a pre-updated Sub and a Omega Seamaster, but that is it.

I am pretty surprised by the lack of watch owners in some of the workplaces you guys have mentioned. Working in a mid sized accounting firm I figured that there was no interest from my coworkers in an effort to remain fairly conservative and low key. Seem thought that there is only a small segment who are at all interested.

I have posted my thoughts on these boards in the past, but the majority of us who post on these boards are watch nerds - unlike the majority of people who buy nice timepieces who are buying them to present themselves within a social hierarchy.

I have friends who make $250k+ a year who think a watch is a huge waste of money, while I have others who make peanuts and would save for years to afford a $5k watch. One of my best friends is a lawyer who makes $400k+ per year. He bought a Rolex with diamonds and knows nothing about the watch other than it's a rolex and it has diamonds and his lawyer buddies won't scoff at him for owning a cheap watch.

I judge no man by his watch. But I appreciate a man who appreciates watches the way I do.

I'm currently visiting my family in Fort Lauderdale FL. I was walking down near their downdown district and high end shopping. Every business man I saw, or person with a decent amount of money seemed to be wearing a Sub. It makes me not really want one now. I also had quite an experiance with a rude watchmaker, but that's another story! ... I'll post that one soon.

In the design office, other than me with the Lings, theres two Superoceans, a couple of Tags, but mostly G Shocks or other Casios.
My company used to give a Breitling to those who had served 25 years, but stopped the practice when I reached 24, such is life.
Higher up the corporate ladder, there are at least a couple of Panerai, a Daytona and a Big Bang. I've spotted what looks like a JLC but haven't got close enough to confirm. I confess to looking for the watch whenever I meet someone, but don't push for closure unless they too show an interest.
We have the odd dealer or client come in with sumptuous exotica hanging from their tanned wrists, including one who had a matching gold Zenith on left and right wrists. A little tarty methinks, but a practical way of keeping track of two time zones after all.
