I am seriously considering the sea-dweller as my next pickup near the end of this year. The hard thing is to find a good one used since its discontinued.

EDIT: just found this video on youtube showing the sea dweller in more detail

Excellent video!

I quite like the Submariner, but I would prefer an updated model with the improvements that the Submariner Date/Deepsea have. I wonder if this is planned anytime soon!? (Basel?)

Hi Ms Anez,

Nothing worng with wanting a Rolex. I think the 40mm sports watches can suit women well. However, you have mentioned your tiny wrists in the past and I think you may be able to do the same as my wife who also has smaller wrists.

She has a Gents manual wind Cellini (33mm diameter) and ladies Oyster Perpetual (25mm diameter). She loves them both.

Come on guys, everyone has to have ONE Rolex ! :)

I grew up a watch fanatic and owning a Rolex was my dream. I've had a few of them. It's a great watch. I will always need to own at least one. My Sub 16610 is such a nice , subtle watch.

Ha ha I grew up hating Rolex. I promised myself not to ever wear one.

I completely respect Rolex, but I currently have no interest in them. I think two types of people wear them- those who know absolutely nothing about watches and wear one as a status symbol and those who know a lot about watches and wear one for its fantastic craftsmanship. I don't want to be associated with the former, so I've stayed away from the brand. Furthermore, their designs are completely unremarkable and normally of a smaller diameter.

The DSSD and Daytona are the only Rolexes that do even a little bit for me, but there are so many other unique watches out there of similar quality to Rolex that I just can't justify jumping on the Rolex bandwagon. However, Rolex has a gigantic following, so my opinion is definitely in the minority.

My AD has a gorgeous SS Daytona that I was admiring in the window today, but it's just too expensive. The only models I really like that they have out right now are the no-date Submariner and the Daytona (I also like the DSSD, but it would look like a hubcap on me) and I don't see either of those disappearing any time soon, so I guess I'll wait for now.

I totally agree with you. However, I do believe the first type you described makes up the vast majority of Rolex owners. That is why I promised myself not to ever own one.

That doesn't mean that I do not respect Rolex, you can hardly blame'em for who's buying their products. After all, it is the result of their very good marketing campaign. Furthermore, it's true that through the years, like Mercedes-Benz, it has become a status symbol, hence their

gigantic following
And in some parts of the world, like the one I come from, the combination of the two is a must if you want to be seen as someone who's succeeded in life. That is why, personally, I chose not to touch at those two brands.

Buy it. I own four Breitlings and two brand new Rolexes. I just love my GMT Master 11 and Sub. The movement is smoother and the finish is better. Rolex is great. Period. Don't let any of the haters on here tell you otherwise.

I own a 16610 and I am not loyal to any specific brand. I enjoy a well made, good looking watch.

I do find your description of Rolex owners interesting. This is because I have heard many folks describe Breitling owners the same way. Ostentatious people , trying to look wealthy etc. I think a lot of that is due to the size of the watches. I would not stereotype Rolex owners, as I'm sure you dint want to be. Yes many people by them because they consider them a symbol of success. Same happens with Breitlings. Oh, and Porsche, Mercedes, BMW etc.
