Today's mail call was a welcome event to say the least. My long awaited anticipation was sated today with the arrival of a truly unique, beautiful addition to my humble collection. Some of ya'll might remember this exact piece when it was introduced by FEAR on this very forum last month. I can not thank him enough for providing me with such a truly unique looking piece to add to my collection. He and I discussed this piece at quite some length and I have to say that not only was everything he said true, but as it turns out it is even better than I expected. This wonderful representation of the Corum Admiral's Cup line is a welcome addition to my collection with a pleasing style all it's own. So without further ado, I am proud to present my review of the Corum Black Hull.

The Corum Black Hull
The twelve-sided 48mm black PVD Grade 5 Titanium case is flawless in it's matte black finish and creates a stunning wrist presence with a WR of an amazing 30 ATM (1000 ft). The angular black PVD push buttons directly flanking each side of the crown not only engage the chronograph functions, but they stylishly provide ample protection for the crown as well. Engraved with the Corum "Key", the screw down crown ensures the maximum protection against water damage. Complimenting the sharp angularity of this watch are it's unique slide locks which are located to each side of the pushers and when engaged will prevent them from being accidentally activated.

The flat black enamel painted brass dial is graced with a minute sub at the 3, an hour sub at the 6, and a small second sub at the 9, all sporting Rhodium coated, black Superluminova "Dauphine" hands. Also residing at 430 on the dial is the easy to read date window which can be set by simply by utilizing the pin pusher located on the case edge at the 10. Large Rhodium coated hour/minute hands with black Superluminova make it easy to read at a glance and the Corum "Key" acts as a beautiful balance on the sweeping seconds hand.

The dodecagonal chapter ring masterfully displays nautical pendants that correspond to each of the Rhodium coated/black Superluminova chevron hour indicators. Protecting the dial is an AR coated convex Sapphire crystal which is ringed by a twelve-sided vulcanized rubber bezel that is the trademark shape of the Admiral's Cup Series.

The Grade 5 Titanium screw-in case back is adorned with an engraved SS Admiral's Cup trophy cup, Limited Edition 918/999, and is coated with vulcanized rubber. Securing the Black Hull to the arm is via the very comfortable non-tapered 24mm rubber strap and Corum engraved Grade 5 PVD coated tongue and tang buckle. The heart of the Black Hull is Corum's COSC Caliber CO753 which beats at 28,800 vph and touts a reserve of ~48 hours.

I have not really considered a Titanium piece before, but in retrospect I am very pleased with this new addition. It is a watch that has great wrist presence, unique design, well finished, and very comfortable to wear.

I was wondering who'd bought this one! It's definitely one of my favourite non-Breitling pieces I've seen posted, so health to wear and enjoy; I think it looks super.

And thanks for the review-- there aren't many floating around for this brand, so it made interesting reading! :)

Very nice addition Montexn, Corum has always been a brand that I really liked and this one is something special.

Enjoy it.

BTW, is that Afghan or Iraqi sand in your 3d picture?

Thanks Jerry, yes sir I agree with ya on the Corums. They do produce some fine pieces, with the "Bridge" series being some of the most iconic pieces out there IMO. I've got my sights set on adding a Ti Bridge to my collection in fairly short order....I hope.

Oh and btw it's Iraqi sand...soon to be Afghanistan sand........ugh! Got my marching orders tonight to bug out of here in a few days and head to the other litter box...fun fun.

Sasho....now who in the world could that of been I wonder...hmmmm.....

Anez...I had no choice....FEAR held me up at gun point and forced me to do it....I swear!! :guns:

Wish you luck, should be a bit colder up there this time of year, no?

Do post some pictures if and when you can when you change your litter box  :)

Just had one of these on my wrist in person today-- beautiful watch. A tad too big for my petite bones, alas, but felt the need to comment on it further having seen one in person. :D Congrats again, Montexan, even if you did buy it under duress! :P

I think you are right...I just checked it and here in Iraq at the moment it's about 5C.....Shindand Afghanistan is -6C. Oh well hope that is so in the summer as well, but I ain't gonna hold my breath for sure. I'll be trying to nab some photos for sure, Shindand is supposed to be the biggest Air Base in Afghanistan, but the amenities there currently are pretty sparse. Looks like I'll be living in a tent for awhile as well, I'm sure going to miss my hard walled room. They are supposed to get us some actual living containers soon....I sure hope so.

Just got through packing up the "Watch House" (winder) and shipping it and all my other stuff out tomorrow. The big question is how long is it going to take for my junk to get there. Amazing how much crap you can collect in 5 years, I've got 4 other trunks that have to go back home.

Once I hit ground at Shindand I have no idea how long it will be before I can get on the internet either. I'm shipping my system over, but won't have the dish as it will have to be shipped to me from Kandahar Afghanistan. I'm already hating this transition I can tell ya.

@Anez....so you got to see one of these rascals at the AD Zoo eh? Good thing FEAR wasn't there...he might of held a gun to you too and you would be sporting one of these...too big or not..LOL. Thanks for the compliments, he really did me right on this piece and I sure am liking it a lot.

Just in case any of the ladies or smaller-wristed gents on the site are considering hunting down one of these, a comparison shot:

Image

For reference, my wrist is 5.5".

Love this model, but it's just TOO big for me. I'm looking into the lady's size, but with the diamonds, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a completely different-looking watch, and I may not like it as much because I don't think it will look half as sporty as this one. I wish sometimes watch companies would make some nice, higher-end ladies (or small sized) watches without diamonds all over them. Not everyone wants to sparkle all the time just because they're a girl!
