Hey guys. So the luxury watch bug has begun to affect me....I probably need a decent watch case rather than throwing my watches in my dresser.

I narrowed it down to two and wondered if anyone had any experience with these companies or with either of these cases:

Both are about the same price. I know these will not be ultra high end items but I do want something quality that will display my watches nicely and hold up. I do like larger watches (45-48mm) and have a moderate 7" wrist so whatever case I buy needs to fit larger faced watches. Any other suggestions are welcome!

I have the Wolf Designs box you posted. I like it a lot, all of my watches fit nicely. It has a really nice finish, and matches my Wolf winder as well. I received it as a gift from my wife. If I would change anything I might have gone for the one with the drawer underneath for strap storage. Although, in the meantime I just put the strap / bracelet I am not wearing in a watch slot.

Thanks for the input. Funny I was also thinking about the one from Wolf Designs with the drawer (below). They are all out of stock but I called the company and they are due back in around 2-3 weeks.

I've never owned a Wolf winder (but I heard good things about them), but I have owned a Steinhausen and it was frankly rubbish. It rotated way too fast, had no rest period in the cycle, and was quite noisy too. I should say that this was a long time ago, so they may have improved now, but personally I wouldn't go near them again.

Hey D8, you a little rusty after Christmas break?

He/she is asking about an inexpensive watch case, not a winder.

I can imagine just seeing "Wolf" evokes a Pavlovian response of standard winder advice.

I've not owned either so I can't add anything to this thread but a good hardy poke at D8.

Speaking of WINDERS, a year or so ago I bought 3 multi watch Garmin (Chinese made, sold on amazon) winders. They worked fine - one still in use - and cost almost nothing. But 2 were starting to have issues (besides the noise issue which happens within a half hour of these very inexpensive heavily plastic reliant winders) so I ordered a new 6 watch winder from amazon. Now these Garmins are called Diplomat but they are the same items rebranded. The first one showed up on time - it spun at autoclave speed and I looked like Lucille Ball tryin to catch my watches. Then it just stopped dead! Amazon overnighted another - it ran great! For about 30 seconds. Dead. Refund time.

I ended up getting another Chinese made brand - Heiden - but after one week can already see a noticeable difference. While the individual watch holders are not the most solid things in the world and care must be taken removing the watch/pillow, they are single watch holders instead of double. And they make no noise. All 12 spots are individually programmable. The interior of each holder is cheaply made but at least it is not permanently sealed like the Garmin/Diplomat. You could actually get into this one if you needed to. Under $1000. We'll see if I get more than a year before some motors start to give way.


PS - I am extremely bored! Day 2 of being at home with my daughter who is recovering nicley from wisdom teeth removal yesterday. I'm sure my # of posts the last 2 days in no way refelct this.

Oops, yeah I guess I was half asleep (or perhaps still a little hungover from Christmas) this morning!

Yeah, in fact both Wolf and Steinhausen immediately say "watch winders" to me, so out came the winder response. (And I obviously didn't click on the OP's links either! )

I can see the allure of a clear case top, but for some reason I have always liked the solid top boxes. These look nice though.

I was going to buy the Wolf 5-pc with the glass top yesterday, but they are completely sold out (they're actually sold out of the glass top in all sizes).

Called them and they should be back in stock in 2-3 weeks. The 5-pc is $75 and they offer free shipping if you spend over $50. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Of course now I have to wait.....
