Hey Gang,

I was just wondering what you thought of Hamilton Watches. My wife got me one for Christmas and I do not know much about them. Any photos would be great too.

I have had good luck with Hamilton watches. They keep great time and they have watches that are a bit bigger than the norm. Very hearty. Here is a couple pictures of one I had at one time. They are my preferred pocket watch to work on.

I had a nice Hamilton Khaki chrono that i quite enjoyed before i traded it away. Kept good time and had a nice dial.

I also had a Hamilton Khaki Chrono before selling it off. I personally feel that Hamilton is one of the best sub $1,000 watches on the market. Hamilton and Oris are neck and neck in my opnion. For the price of a Hamilton you can't get much better. Enjoy it, that's a nice Christmas gift!!

I have looked at Hamiltons over the years - I love some of their designs, and while I think they are excellent at keeping time and "hearty" watches, they lack a luxurious feel and attention to small details which can make them "great" watches. I owned a Hamilton Below Zero and got rid of it after a year because of that lack of attention to details.

It's a good starter watch if you're a watch geek/nerd - and I mean that in no disrespect to the thoughtful gift that your wife gave you. Being a married man, there are certain things I wouldn't want my wife to buy me - one of them is a watch because I'm so damn picky about what I desire. Likewise, while I know she has a shoe fetish, I wouldn't pretend to try to buy her a luxurious pair of shoes for the same fear

I personally think Oris is a better watch all around for the $$$$.

And that's all I have to say about that.

How many sub $1,000 watches have a luxurious feel and pay attention to small details??? I don't know of any. Hamilton and Oris do a great job for what they are...and I prefer Hamilton's designs to Oris, I do not like the bubble -shapes cases on the Oris dive watches but they're still very good watches.

It is a DIVE WATCH - the luminosity was absolutely terrible and the second hand was extremely difficult to see as it had a dark red tip and blended in with the face of the watch. Additionally, the bezel was difficult to see under certain conditions. So whether it was $1,000 or it was $200, it didn't come close to functioning as it should have. I bought it when I was a relative noob to collecting - so live and learn.

An Oris for $1,000 or a Hamilton for $1,000 - I'd take the Oris in a heartbeat.

Again, just my humble opinion.
