I am obsessed with the 6003 model. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with the brand?

I've handled quite a few, they're OK but nothing spectacular for the price that you are expected to pay.

They're not bad watches. They don't tend to hold value well but I do like the uniqueness of them. If you can get one for a good price, I'd go for it. I just passed on a Professionale GMT in favor of my Aqautimer.

Like the look, a lot, hate the price, a lot. I see much more bang for buck elsewhere.

Well I pulled the trigger on a 7001 model - http://www.anonimo.com/models/marlin_10_anni.html

I was able to secure a 30% discount and my AD who is one of the biggest watch geeks I know talked me into it. Apparently some of the guys who were with Panerai for 30+ years assisted with the cases and movements and he assured me it's a tank of a watch that I can knock around. The deployable clasp and uniqueness of the waterproof calf skin strap put me over the edge - along with it's high lume.

And I trust my AD - he has talked me out of some much more expensive pieces in the past, so I value his opinion.

For those who wouldn't give it a thumbs up, I'm curious to know why. I just wanted a good, automatic beater to wear to the beach, go snorkeling, and that has a unique look. And I just wanted it to tell time - I didn't want a chrono. Perhaps a rotating bezel might have been a plus, but it wasn't a necessity for me.

Interesting...I respect whatever reason people have for wanting a watch. Having said that, I've never really been one to seek a good (or at least expensive) watch as a "beater." I kind of chuckle at the fact I like diving watches so much, because the diving watches I have will get about as much use underwater as my 4WD SUV will get off road...which is to say, none. Personally, if I were getting a watch for the purposes you are, I'd go with a Casio G-Shock or Pathfinder, and save the four-figure watches for less taxing situations.

Regarding the specific Anonimos you pointed out, they remind me of an odd hybrid between a Panerai and a Luminox, minus the killer lume. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't my taste. I can think of a lot of other watches for that kind of outlay I would get before the two you suggested. But to each his own. If you're happy with it, that's what matters. The thread on "popular watches you dislike" shows there will always be at least one person who has zero love for a watch another person adores. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

Interesting^^^^

When I spend 4 figures on a watch, it's because I plan on having it for a long time. I've been looking for a hearty diver and most of the threads or responses bring up the usual suspects - Oris, Rolex, Tissot, Panerai, Luminox, etc...I will actually use it primarily in water - in the ocean on Caribbean and Hawaii vacations and in the Great Lakes as I live in Chicago and spend long summer weekends on Lake Michigan with the wife and pooch - so yes - my beater beach watch will actually be used quite a bit on the beach. However, having a watch that I can wear from the water to a nice restaurant is great and was also a necessity.

I "know" there are plenty of cheaper watches that will be waterproof to 50M with no problem - but I wanted something nicer and didn't want an easily recognizable brand. Anonimo has all swiss movements and the cases and straps are all made in Italy.

Not necessarily directed at the comment above this, but I feel like many often look down upon a brand because they do not know much about it. I love the history of Breitling, my Panerai, Rolex, etc....but a good watch company has to start somewhere and a good watch company doesn't have to have 150+ years of history to produce good watches.

Thanks :)

I can't speak for others, by I based my comments solely on my first-time observations of the pictures you linked to. They weren't informed by bias for or against the watch brand, and I don't think increased familiarity with the brand would have changed my feelings any. For instance, there are plenty of Breitlings I don't like, either. Honestly, the specific Anonimos you linked to just aren't my cup of tea, and my feelings have nothing to do with my thoughts either way about the brand itself. In contrast, the watch in this thread is another one I hadn't seen before, although I do know the brand somewhat better, but not enough to have any great affection for it. Nevertheless, I took an immediate liking to the watch, because it fits with what I like.

I agree fully, and if a newer company were producing watches I liked, I'd certainly consider those watches. I will say, though, that the reputation of the company might affect how much I was willing to pay for those watches.

Congrats on your Anonimo. I was very close to getting this one but went with the Aquatimer first. Be sure to post up some real life pics when you get the chance.

Love mine and its wasnt but 14 years ago these same people were making a brand called Panerai!
History

Saving the Florentine Tradition of Military Watch Making
Attending a business luncheon, the conversation among the Florentine business people turned to one of Florence's most important industries:fashion. News of an important acquisition was just beginning to shift from the realm of private negotiations to the public domain via leaders in the business community.

The Bad News: The Loss of a Tradition
The news was not the kind that Italians - especially Florentine Italians - liked to hear. Italians, proud of their talents in design and craftsmanship, are loathe to learn when a prized national product is in danger of not just being aquired, but removed completely from domestic production. This is especially true when that removal appears to be...forever. Such an event, Florence's leaders of commerce agreed, would signal the end of an era of Tuscan watchmaking pride and honor.

An Original Lost
Many who read these words know just which event, product and people the above refers to. As connoisseurs of fine watches, you understand that the loss of these special watchmaking processes, techniques and personnel would be anathema to anyone who truly appreciates the Tuscan tradition of fine Florentine craftsmanship. To remove this from its birthplace would be to change the original forever.

Respect for the New; Reverence for the Old
Anonimo respects and admires the evolution of the original Italian military watch. Because of this evolution and the necessity to keep alive a Florentine tradition, Anonimo was born and thrives today. Anonimo's future is inextricably linked to its past.

The Good News: The Rebirth of a Tradition
In 1997, Federico Massacesi, a longtime executive with fashion design legend Salvatore Ferragamo, officially established Anonimo in the creative center of Florence. Massacesi clearly heard the call to save an Italian heritage, preserving both the livelihood of the craftsmen who had dedicated their skills to Tuscan watchmaking and a veritable regional treasure as well. By providing the necessary resources, he ensured the continuation of case and strap manufacturing techniques that only this original team of veteran watch craftsmen could continue to produce. "Leave Italy?!" they cried. "Never!"

And so Anonimo was born, a monument to excellence complete with the original artisans and materials essential to keeping tradition intact and alive. Though Anonimo may be less than a decade old, its people, its processes, its craftsmanship date back over 50 years.

Anonimo: a perfect blend of tradition and innovation.

I think that I have proved with some of the watches that I have shown here that I have no issues with relatively new brands (Romain Jerome, Louis Moinet). I just can't get excited about these watches that (to me) look just like so many other watches.

For me there is nothing that makes them stand out for the crowd, but if we all had the same tastes then it would be a boring world.

That's a very pretty watch, Justin!

And thanks for the additional history Call Kid.

What I like most about the Anonimo is the case - it is a hearty case which doesn't scratch easily due to the way they make the steel and literally "carve out" the case from a piece of steel - vs. pressing it. The Kodiac calfskin bracelets are very unique to the brand as well - and relative to some of the luxury brands out there, I just think it'll take more abuse. High lume so my aging eyes could see it better at night was of interest to me as well.

While I love my PAM, the high-polished case doesn't lend itself to getting knocked around and my BlackBird, while relatively sturdy, can't really take a beating without looking like it got a beating.

I'll post some pics in a few days - but thanks for the feedback and for sharing some additional information.
