I just got my wife a used Rolex DateJust for her birthday and she loves it. It was in your price range. Very classy and an auto to boot!

Such a great suggestion - unfortunately the procrastinator in me won again this year and I didn't start scanning for used DJs until much too late. Unless I get lucky with a local seller very soon, I'll probably have to go the AD route.

I took all of the suggestions so far and have my AD bringing a bunch of pieces together for me to look at on Tuesday. For the sake of saving time and frustration, I've narrowed the choices down to four that were readily available: the Ebel Brasilia (stainless tank on bracelet with a white MOP face), Baume et Mercier Hampton (stainless tank on bracelet, 'natural' MOP face with diamond markers), Omega Constellation Quadrella Mini (a pretty neat watch but slightly above my price range), and the Cartier tank solo (stainless tank case, white face on black leather strap). The Cartier was included simply because any woman loves anything by Cartier - it's a universal (and the AD promised that she'd give me an oversized box to avoid the 'ring' anticipation).

As an added bonus, I've got one more purchase decision to make now. I'll be starting a new thread shortly on that...

Well, the piece of advice I can give you is make sure you buy her something that she would want, not something that you would want if you were a woman........ I just made this mistake a few weeks ago when I picked up a new SS starliner for my wife for her birthday (I thought it was a pretty good choice, and if I were a woman I think I would wear one).

She opened the box took it out, tried it on for about 4 seconds then put in back in the box, swing and a miss!!!! haha.

Anyways, long story short ended up taking the watch back for store credit and a week or so later, after 4 trips back finally ended up with a white ceramic Fendi Quadro with a diamond dial and best of all a brand new blue dial steelfish for myself for the same price as I paid for the starliner. Not sure how the Fendi will hold up, but my wife loves it and I suppose that's all that really matters in the end.
