Post subject:  Caution. Rolex Content

After admiring the Deep Sea for weeks, I finally found mine while on a Caribbean cruise last week. I looked for it at Little Switzerland and Art of Time in St. Maarten but they didn't sell Rolex. Goldfinger's was the only AD there but they didn't have one. I read about A.H. Riise, a reputable Rolex retailer, in St. Thomas in my WatchTIME magazine. Lucky for me, we were stopping in St. Thomas on Thursday so my first order of business while there was to find this store! Long story short... I did and they had one and I did not hesitate to buy it! Got a great deal too. Funny because an older gentleman was there at the same time looking for the Deep Sea while I was trying it on. He asked about it and I told him it was on my wrist. He wasn't getting mine! This is my first Rolex and the watch is AWESOME. Here are some pics taken from the balcony of our ship...

case is a whopping 16mm thick and 43mm in diameter!

Nice going!

The first "proper-sized" Rolie ever! (Except perhaps the Yachtmaster II). And also the best looking one ever IMHO. Great pick-up.

No actually. I paid $8970 duty (and customs) :nana: free, which is currently below prices stateside. This was the stickered price at AH Riise and they would not go any lower.

Yes, 43mm but it seems much bigger. The bezel is really thick which makes the dial appear smaller. But when held side by side the Navi World, it's nearly the same size from edge to edge. And it's 16mm thick! Very fat. I think you'll be impressed by the size when you see one in person. I was blown away. One guy on the Rolex forums said he "gasped" at the sheer size when the AD opened the box. It's not what you'd expect from Rolex.

Wow, I like it! I have to admit Connoisseur, I am becoming increasingly jealous of your watch collection. Nice find!

Hmmm, sounds like some good (expensive) news. 8)

Good pick-up! I like it, and it looks great on your wrist. And that writing around the dial doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

Dear Connoisseur,

Fantastic watch. A friend bought one a few weeks ago and brought
it over for me to drool over. I tried it on and it certainly felt substantial.
Actually, it looked thicker than 16mm. But when we held it next to my Skyland
for comparison, the Deep Sea was just a tad thinner than the
Breitling, about 1mm or so. I think the SD's design, the shape of
the lugs, make it look a little thicker. At any rate it's a beautiful
timepiece. Enjoy! :)
