Hi everyone, I'm very much a bracelet fan, but I do have a hankering for a Breitling tan strap to try on my SO44 yellow.
Does anyone on the forum have one on this watch, & if so would they possibly have a picture/wrist shot they could post on here for me to make up my mind. I'm just not too sure that leather would suit this watch like steel or rubber.
Thanks in advance.

Dohhhh... thanks Charlie, why didn't I think to look there first  Would still like to see a wrist shot from anyone out there. Must say I think it looks quite nice, getting more tempted by the minute.

No problem.
Hope you get a 'live' pic.
Can I please ask for your thoughts on the SO44 as one might be in my sights in a few months?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Charlie, hmmmm, my thoughts on the SO44. After many years & many watches, I can honestly say, hand-on-heart, it's the best 'wearer' I've ever had. It has the perfect weight or 'heft' for me, I like heavy watches, & has the perfect depth or thickness, not too chunky, ala Avenger Seawolf, but also not too thin. There is a nice ratio between bezel thickness & case, i.e. caseband is not too much thicker than the bezel rim. I love the rubber bezel & prefer to rider tabs and of course the toothed bezel rim as opposed to smooth works for me. However, we don't live in a perfect world & dial-wise I so wished that we could have a numeral at 3 to balance the 6&9 and arrange the date between 20&25 past on the dial. Oh, nearly forgot, a luminous bezel pip @ 12 o'clock would have been nice. But honestly, when I pick the watch up and hold it across my fingers and feel the weight, then clamp it to my wrist and admire from various angles, it's a winner for me, it just looks so good whatever way you look at it. I will always prefer this watch to a Rolex Sub, a truly great and classic watch, but the 44 feels better on my wrist, the Sub being just too small diameter-wise and without that nice weighty feel. I would say IMO the Sub just pips the SO finish wise, very crisp case/bracelet engineering but now I'm just being picky. At the end of the day it's all subjective to us WIS's, you like what you like etc..... but for me and my long journey the SO44 will always be a keeper. Have to say also that it's a great value for money watch, 2,000 mts water-resistance, chronometer certified & modified ETA engine, superb Pro-II bracelet and a case that in the 18 months of my ownership has no scratches/swirlies to casesides/lugs, in other words very durable through normal wear & tear and very reasonably priced in comparison to quite a few others out there. Also, unlike a few other brands, this particular watch along with many other Breitling models looks good on rubber and leather, which gives you another avenue of options.
Please excuse my ramblings here as I'm not particularly good at putting pen to paper, but if you are considering this watch please get into an AD and try one, you just may like it. You can also pick used examples up at really good prices if you can't stretch to list, though you can normally achieve a discount new in my experience.
Cheers.

Thank you very much for your insights into this watch, and they were not ramblings in any way.
In fact your thoughts were far more than I was expecting.

I have tried the SO44 in an AD and really like it. My only stumbling block are the numerals at 6 and 9 that seem to unbalance
the dial a little, but I think I could live with that.

I love everything else about it though, especially the legibility for old eyes :)

Thanks again for the great review, it was much appreciated.

Nick.

I didn't even consider the SO44 until I saw it on the gold leather. I think it's the best combo. Here's some shots of my new acquisition.
