that strange discussion we had recently about valuations of rather rare vintage Breitlings reminded me that I had not worn my Datora for some time, so got this elegant old lady from the safe.

Breitling Datora ref. 784, manufactured in 1945, aging elegantly; beautiful Valjoux 23c movement.

Yet another nice vintage from Fred. Your vintage collection seems almost endless. I hope to have a collection as nice as yours one day.

Wow, that one looks in great shape Fred. Surprised to see all those complications back then. Curious to know what the size of that piece is or others typical in that era?

Surprised you haven't listed it on eBay for $300k + already.

Thanks, guys; it is really quite a nice early piece, valuable: yes, but thankfully I'm not delusional.

Terry, the Datora chronographs are approx. 36mm; the Valjoux 13 lignes column wheel chrono family was introduced in 1916 and produced until 1974 - first as the VZ/VZH/VZC/VZHC, then, better known, as the V22/V72/V23C/V72C in several variants until the V730 or a claimed 731 I have never seen, some variations were produced for PP, VC, AP - you find those as the basis for many of the most desirable chronographs of all times, C versions incorporate "triple date" functions, the H or later the 7 stood for the hour counter.

Fred, this ones absolutely stunning, you never fail to impress. When did you get this one? Nice unmarked movement very similar to the movement on mine.

Btw how did you unscrew the case back?

Missed those discussions on vintage valuations, link please?

Thanks

San, it isn't a screw caseback, but a clip; Bergeon case knife.

Disregard the valuation discussion, we were laughing about a delusional BIN listing for a non-chrono Datora w/ a price of around $450k; Herbert/Michael TheSage, of course, who had sneaked back in as member DatoCompax.

That's an unusual looking watch Fred and in superb condition. I like it - looks great on your wrist.

Your vintage collection is very impressive indeed.
