Found this while visiting with my grandfather who is pretty well traveled after a military stint and later on working all over the globe with the energy industry.

Anyhow, this is a manual wind movement that is pretty basic but it cool nonetheless. According to wikipedia..Raketa (Russian: Paкéтa; IPA: [rɐˈkʲetə]) watches have been manufactured since 1961 by the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg. The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is Russia's oldest factory, it was founded by Peter the Great in 1721 as the Peterhof Lapidary Works to make hardstone carvings. Raketa watches were produced for the Red Army, the Soviet Navy, for North Pole expeditions, as well as for civilians.

Yep, good old Russian watches. This and the Aero Industry were probably the only good things to come out of the CCCP era. Amazes me how they kept a watch industry alive with so much demand on labour elsewhere. The need for watches must have been very great though, so I guess it figures. I wonder if these watches were avaialble to all citizens, or if they were restricted or rationed in any way?
