I have a Avenger Seawolf titanium and I just added the ocean racer strap with polished clasp. Does anyone think the polished with matte titanium looks bad/weird. The diver pro strap it came with had a highly polished tang so I guess it is stylistically the same. My question is, should I polish up the rest in my next service (case and all), or should I leave the contrast, or should I have the clasp matte finished?

Thanks for opinions.

I have had great success re-finishing case in-between services with a scotch-brite pad, but given the raised Breitling logo on the clasp I don't think I could get it to look uniform. I am sure Breitling USA could handle at next service 3 years from now. I also am wondering if anyone has ever requested a full mirror polish on a titanium Breitling like mine?

Thank You

Welcome aboard. (I think you may have posted this in the wrong section, but never mind! )

Personally I'm a bit of a fanatic for having things matching on my watches, so it has always amazed me that Breitling have never made a titanium deployant to go with straps. But as it is, if I was you I'd be very tempted to get the OR clasp professionally brushed. A number of places will do that for you, so I woudln't have thought you'd have to send it back to BUSA. (In fact they may even refuse to do it as they get very funny about moving away from standard finishes).

I certainly wouldn't recommend polishing up the watch head. Firstly titanium doesn't lend itself particularly well to mirror finishes. Yes you can polish it but you will not get it to the high sheen of steel. Secondly it is very tough to get a true factory-finish polish on metal that was previously brushed. And lastly if you polish the head up, you'll never be able to switch to a bracelet again as Breilting have not made a polished ti bracelet. (And bracelets are even harder than the head to polish up!)

Thanks for the response,

I just re-posted question in the general area, I think I picked the wrong forum.

I have read you can request BUSA to change the finish on a particular watch, not sure if it is true in practice as I have not requested such a thing. I have seen highly poilished TI and it looks very similiar to SS.

Thanks again.

The problem you have with ti is that it is relatively soft compared to steel. Thus it is hard to keep the mirrored finish. As I say I'd personally steer clear of polishing the head.

By the way, if you can find an AD that is also an approved Breitling repair centre, they will almost certainly bush the clasp for you. I asked a while back at one local to me about polishing up a Steelfish bracelet (which is brushed as standard) and they said they would do it, so I guess they would also go the other way and brush something that was polished.

There's another problem with titanium as well. It is darker than steel, so you can never get it to look as bright as polished steel. The best thing to do to get it matched would be to brush (quite heavily) the clasp, in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback.

I ended up applying a brushed finish to clasp.

Let me know what you think.

Yup - can only agree - good match.

And you could always get the old cape cods out to re polish if you wanted to swap again.

Good job

A fib for sure, could have old info though as originally it was not available.

My AD pulled mine off a superocean heritage so I didn't have to even order.

Anyhow it is available and he/she should be able to get it for you. Says 22-20 on mine then 2008, which I assume is the manufacture date.

I love the look and feel of this strap and in my opinion it should be a option along with the diver pro. After brushing the match is perfect.

Good Luck
