On Friday I picked up this little beauty at the Zenith Boutique in Geneva. It's the first one they've sold and currently it is available only at boutiques so there aren't many in the wild. Eventually, it will be available on either a mesh bracelet or a really nice calf strap. At the moment, only the mesh bracelet is available. Since I don't like the bracelet they put it on an alligator strap. It's nice but I don't think it does anything for the watch. I've ordered a Stone Creek strap that I think will look much better.

The box was a very pleasant surprise. Beautiful glossy finish and quality hardware.

The dial is matte black and very simple befitting a Pilot's watch. The only ornamentation is from the font and the big date.

The case is mostly brushed but chamfers on the lugs and the area between the lugs are polished.
Image

The El Primero movement, nicely decorated for a watch at this price point.

Obligatory wrist shot.

David - that looks outstanding!! I love the look of the dial and the beautifully brushed case, VERY VERY NICE!!! What is the lug width? That would look awesome on an IWC Big Pilot Strap. I really want that piece now! Congrats again and enjoy it.

I'm not that much of a "pilot" guy, but the proportion and detailing of the watch is really, really nice. Congrats on a great watch and being one of the first to own it.

Thanks guys. I'm really enjoying it.

Sergio - the lug width is 21mm.

Fred - the croc strap is a very dark brown, too dark. Doesn't really go with the watch but I can't complain since they put it on as a favor (I really didn't want the mesh.) The calf strap I've ordered is a much better color and will have contrasting stitching and wrapped lugs. Can't wait.

Doh! I meant to do a lume shot and forgot - had something else on my mind while I was taking the photos. Will try to do one soon. To answer your question, the lume is good. The numbers are made entirely of Super Luminova so in the dark the watch lights up like a Christmas tree.

grenhall, Tom and l4l, thanks for the comments.

Congrats David.
That is a very nice watch indeed.
I really think you've done a great job with the strap. (I like it).
Enjoy.

Huge congrats David, VERY nice pick-up. Sometimes, it helps being near the source. ;)

That's a nice piece. Is it just the time that the shots were taken, or why aren't the date numbers aligned?

Oui, c'est vrai. Genève est la Mecque des montres.

It's perspective. The two date wheels are not co-planar, the units wheel is lower than the tens wheel. So if you look at an angle, they appear to be out of alignment. As I understand it, this is common on big date complications (including A. Lange, I believe) though Glashütte Original has solved the problem.

David, forgot to welcome your beautiful new Zenith with an ancestor !

A bit too young maybe, as it was made in 2000, so an elder sibling.
On a honey croc that works quite nicely (know you dislike croc, just for the color),
taking pics of these shiny black dials is a b*tch.
