Aside from collecting watches, my hobby is photography. Lately, I figured I might well combine the two and took my first attempts at shooting watches.
After a lot of improvisation, I was getting mixed results. The best I came up with was this:
However, much was still wrong with it. What I wanted was to render the batons and hands in silver. Aside from that, I wanted to add some nuances into the reflections of the lugs, because just holding paper in front of them to control the reflections made them look a bit dreary.

I know, the difference is minor, but I liked the challenge of making a properly good image out of the first one. It took me some craftsmanship (or the best attempt at it I could come up with) to control the reflections in the stainless steel, but I found/built a solution. So from today on, I should have an easier time taking images of watches
What I did was to fill a cardboard box with white, standard issue printer paper. The back is a white plastic bag, that can be backlit for a white background and removed for a black background. There is a white paper top as well and there are holes in the corners to get flashlights in. The big hole in the front is for the camera.
So then, I wonder, what do you think? Was it worth the hassle?
