While in Thailand I managed to acquire my Open Water Certification which is something that has been on my "Bucket List" for awhile. We had to spend a day in the classroom and a couple more days doing pool exercises before heading out to open water, but it was all good. While the instructor was teaching my fiance, I put my time to good use getting some shots of my divers taking a dip in the pool.

A good variety of dial colors, and a couple of different brands. It begs the question: while the water there, at least, looked very clear, which watch have you found to be the easist to read at a glance underwater?

Scott that is a damn good question...I would have to say the Coral Dial was the easiest to read this time down. The visibility in open water was moderate and we were not down too deep...I think we maxed out at like 13 meters or so. "ROY G. BIV" is an acronym used to remember the colors of the spectrum from one end to the other. From left to right the letters stand for: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. Water filters out more and more colors of the spectrum beginning with Red and follows in sequence the deeper you go. Water clarity will effect this as well, for example sediment suspended in the water, plankton, algae, etc.

In underwater photography use of a flash helps to offset this phenomena, but the subject must be photographed at very closer distances. You can see the difference in the 2 photos below which were taken at a depth of about 50 feet, one without a flash and the other with a flash.

Thanks Tim, you know that any day you get to blow bubbles is a good day. The water clarity was a bit off because of rough water, but it was all good to me. It's always a lot of fun when we go and we always get to see something new. Diving has to be one of the most awesome experiences and in Thailand it's very affordable, I am hooked for sure. I would love to get the chance to check out diving in some other countries some day. I hear Malaysia is a great place to dive as well as down in the Philippines...might give that a go one day as it's easy for my Thai fiance to go to those places without having to get a Visa.

I've also heard that diving in Malaysia is good. Don't forget to check out the Great Barrier Reef, some of the best (if not the best) diving in the world and it's not too far away. The red sea is my other favorite obviously. Love diving, sadly I don't get to do it enough.

Not too far from the USA is Belize in Central America Montexn. I've done snorkelling but not scuba out there and it was really good - I heard scuba divers saying that the reefs off Belize are second only to the Great Barrier Reef.

Roger that KMG, thanks for the tip. I've not had the opportunity to travel to any of the southern destinations, but would love to get down that way one day. Now that I've gotten my Open Water Certification it opens up a lot of dive opportunities that otherwise I would not have the chance to take advantage of.
