Nice pics Ron,

Just curious here :| .

This is a genuine question so no puns guys :) . What's that brown leather thing behind the head? Is a spacer for smaller wrists or is it to make the watch more comfortable?

It's a shame that you couldn't get it in the same colour as the strap Ron - but a minor thing and still a lovely watch :D

Thanks for the comments KMG and BMW17. :-)

The brown leather pad behind the Breitling OEM croco strap is the third part of a strap kit from KHS which is named "Raptor" by that company. The strap kit is modeled after the famous "Bund" strap provided to certain military personnel in Germany. A quick google search for Bund watch straps will provide some interesting information for you.

As to wearing, it is indeed IMO very comfortable to wear, slightly more so than without the pad. Obviously more prone to promoting sweating in the summer, it alleviates the initial shock of a cold caseback in the winter. On some watches such as my B-1 which has a slight protrusion (turbine center) on the caseback, it enhances wearing comfort quite noticeably. Wrist size isn't an issue for me personally (7 3/4" wrist) and in fact, I use the "long" version OEM straps on the pads because of the additional case height on the wrist.

That particular OEM croco strap is one of the more unusual Breitling strap colors available and it is called "camel". It came from a coral dial "Emergency" belonging to a friend. Personally, I don't think a camel color pad would look good at all with that strap. The pads I have are brown or black so I have little to choose from anyway. Actually, I put the pad on the camel croc just for a fun experiment in color contrast for a few "different" watch photos. When wifey remarked how silly it looked and opined that it "cheapened" the watches, I decided I liked wearing them even more. LOL. I really like the pads kitted with black or brown straps to match but how can one not enjoy something a bit more contrasting (and fun) at times? :)
Best,
Ron

And here is a longer Bund style pad from a different strap maker. Just thought it would be fun to try the camel strap on the black dial B-1. This particular pad is not nearly as thick as the KHS pads and of course the longer pad with a different outline gives the watch another look entirely IMO. Just having fun...

Thanks very much for all of the info Ron - appreciated  .

Now I understand what it is and what it's function is :) . I must admit that I had that constant 'scar' on my wrist when wearing the B1 - you know, from the middle bulbous circular bit with the B'ling wings on it. Since I have had the Airwolf, that's no longer a problem. It was also nice to see how the B1 looked with it on :) .
