Vintage pieces are rarely presented in the gallery section, although I am sure many members own beautiful, rare "grail" vintage Breitlings.

I wanted to start to change this, presenting one of my favorite pieces, a late 1974 Breitling transOcean chrono-matic.

As I wrote in another thread: "I like the late60s/early70s pieces very, very much and consider it the most creative and innovative period for Breitling (groundbreaking "world first" Cal 11/12 inhouse automatic chrono movements, the only inhouse ones until last year; trendsetting designs - the TransOceans are now 40 years old and the design still looks fresh and young), next to the late40s/early50s with the sliderule Chronomats and Navitimers.

This is just a personal opinion, I am sure other vintage lovers will have their own "ideal Breitling period" and favorite watches, PLEASE share !

So here it is, my 1974 transOcean:

Never did understand why these pieces don't have more mass market appeal - they are extremely well designed pieces in my mind. We can only imagine where these might have evolved to if there hadn't been the quartz revolution and the desperate decisions that Breitling made to try and survive.

Did you have this watch refurbished? It looks new. Very sharp and rare piece. Thanks for the post and great photo's.
Best health, Frank.

thank you, Frank !
the watch was never polished or refurbished, a real "safe queen", bought in the mid 70s by a collector in Spain, who lovingly stored and serviced it, but very rarely wore it, one of those lucky finds.

Crown on the left side~! That's how a chronomatic should be... nice nice nice!

like the rest of the watch: sturdy, massive, beautiful workmanship, best possible quality. putting it next to my Legende bracelet - maybe a bit less refined, hands, not CNC-machines did the manufacturing.

I love seeing this watch, especially with the hands. My T/O has the same hands and i always assumed they had been fitted later because they weren't the usual square ended ones. I very nearly had mine replaced!
