Hi everyone.

For the past several days - in anticipation of buying my first Breitling - I have been on here asking stupid questions. I wanted to take this time to thank everyone who gave me advice. It really helped me make the decision to buy a Steelfish (instead of the Superocean Professional that I was originally looking at).

So here are a few pictures of my new baby:

Sorry if the pics don't look very good...I just quickly took them w/my iPhone.

Anyway this watch is absolutely beautiful. It's a substantial watch...built like a tank, but not too heavy. It's big, but not too big. The dial is almost mesmerizing. In another thread about the fish I read someone describe the dial as "active", and that just about sums it up.

It is an amazing watch that will hopefully last me for years.

Mike

Hey, congratulations! The Steelfish looks great on black leather, doesn't it? I actually prefer it over the bracelet. Hope you enjoy it for many years.

Congrats.

Stick it on a DPII and you may never take it off.

Thanks for all of the nice replies!

When I told my brother that I had bought one of these, especially preowned, he was skeptical. I think it was really because he never thought expensive watches were worth it. Well, after trying it on, he now wants one too!

A couple of questions: do most of you change your own bands or have the dealer do it? My watch came with both the leather strap, and the Pro II bracelet. I really like it on the leather but at some point I will take it to an AD and have them size the Pro II for me....I saw the video on here that shows how to remove the spring bar but I worry I will scratch it up.

And my other question is the screw down crown. The instructions say not to make it real tight....but how far do you screw it in? When it's properly tightened the crown is almost flush against the watch right? I want to be careful so I don't do anything Ill regret later.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike

What a great watch! I bought the same one three weeks ago, also pre-owned, my first Breitling too, and I'm thrilled with it.

It takes a few weeks to settle down, but if you're like me you'll be monitoring its accuracy (mine gains just over a second a day). On the iPhone there's a good free app that gives atomic time called Time, by emerald and sequoia its a good one to have.

I'm sure you knew to give it a manual wind of 40 turns to fully wind it, and not to change the date or wind it backwards between 8pm and 3am as that can damage the date change mechanism.

Regarding tightening the crown, I turn it till it starts to have some resistance then about 1/8 turn more, it's not 'tight' against the end stop.

Enjoy and thanks for the photos.

Martin

Greg - Yes, it looks great on leather. I was fortunate that the seller not only included a nice leather strap with the watch, but that he also sent the watch with it on. If it had been the other way around and he had sent the watch with the Pro II attached, I may never have tried the leather.

Martin - Thanks for the heads up on the iPhone app. Very handy plus its free!

And just a general comment about the dial of this watch....This watch really has an intriguing dial. It literally changes color depending on what kind of light youre in. When I am inside my house, under those new low energy light bulbs, the dial looks blue (I think its because of the AR)....however, it is sometimes difficult to see the circular pattern on the dial. Under florescent lights, the circular texture really becomes visible. When I brought the watch outside, I could see both the texture, and its black color....

And finally, what is really amazing is that the AR is so good on this watch that at times you cant even see the crystal....the hands just look like they are floating there....so cool.

Thanks again for all of the responses.....
Mike

I bought a Bergeron (sp) tool for the removal of the bracelet and/or the straps. As for me I found the pro2 a bit of a challenge to become accustomed to removing. The leather and rubber are a snap with the forked end of the tool installed. If you have never done a swap see of the jeweler will show you how to do it when you have it sized. I have had a Steelfish for about three years now and I still enjoy the heck out of it. Great first choice and I hope you have many years of enjoyment with it.
Best health, Frank.

Nice pick-up Mike and one of the best ways to join the club.

And, like Tom said, with a DP you may find it difficult to take it off.
