IMO, I think this watch would look great on a black or brown CALF to accentuate to vintage feel.

+1 for the calf strap.

Wearing the Chrono-Matic 44 for some days inspired me to finally shoot some family pics, as this is the last (for now, at least) of a very, very proud heritage.

Will post those pics in a Big-Case Gallery during the next days, but as I had to swap straps anyway, I put the Chrono-Matic 44 on a burgundy vintage OEM from the 70s, unused and stiff, too brittle to wear, just enough for pics. Color does not appear reddish enough in the pics, actually the combo works quite well in real life.

Am sure grey croc will be great too, also brown or black calf.

"Big Case" pieces from 1967 to 2007, from left to right:
1972 Navitimer ref. 1806
2007 Chrono-Matic
1967 Chronomat V178, ref. 0818
1972 SuperOcean ref. 2105

First - great pieces you have there, Fred.

Second, thanks for the help. I sould have the burgundy croco beginning of next week (surpisingly BUSA has a short burgundy strap in stock!!) and the gray after-market in a few weeks.

I really enjoy the "vintage feel" of the Chrono-matic.

Next up is shipping off the Chrono Shark for a dial relume and in two weeks I'll have as close to a real vintage piece as I'm presently willing to go - 16 years old will have to suffice for now. Then, who knows?

Burgandy would be nice touch and the grey as well...something else would be a black with red stitching....just a hint of red that would compliment the hint of red on this piece is another option. Nice piece Sharkman!

That would be a possibility but I don't think that Tom is very much into stiches...

I looked and looked for the custom black leather with red stitching Vintagerstap I had made for the Steihnart BS LE, but can't find it. Did stumble on a spare Breitling black calf (and a brown regular length). When it comes to straps, you never know what I may find looking through a drawer(also found a regular length brown croco/tang). Here is a quick pic on black calf -

Time to buy a red Sharpie!

A quick cell phone snap after sunrise. I had no idea how nice this would look on black calf.

Congrats Tom, on a great watch! I always liked this one, and wondered why they discontinued it. It has a really cool retro look and pays homage to the old Chronomatics. I would love a black dial one. I think a black croc would look amazing on it. An ocean racer in the summer too! Congrats and wear it in good health.

A couple quick cell snaps of the Chronomatic 44 on new burgundy croco. Looks better in person and I like it ... a lot.

Can't wait to see the pictures of all the combos. The burgundy looks good -- more brown than I imagined.

Me too. And you're right about the burgundy, I was expecting it would be much more reddish, based on Breitling's site. That is why it's good to have real pics.
