I finally managed to get over to Andrew Michaels today after knowing for a week that he had this new Ceramic Submariner for me.

After trying one on in an AD for a few minutes previously I knew I had to have one of these. However, having had it a few hours now it has truly come to life in the differing lighting conditions it has been presented with.

The Cerachrom bezel is gorgeous. It looks piano black whichever angle and lighting condition you look at it with. I like the broadened shoulders. It is the biggest 40mm watch I have worn. The glidelock clasp allows it to be comfortable all of the time. Rolex needed to update their bracelets and clasps from the old models and they have truly gone to extremes to make this one of the best bracelets on the market today. I've always been a fan of the maxi dial and the blue lume applied to the new Submariner was is a very nice addition. The other great aesthetic improvement is the UV coating to the date cyclops. This makes the black on white date really jump out.

I'll have to wait and see if the Parachrom hairspring is doing it's job as time goes by and I can take regulation readings.

All in all I think this is the classiest, comfiest and best value for money divers watch on the market. I couldn't be happier. I've owned two Submariners in the past. A non-date, which I owned for 9 years and an LV, which I owned for 6 years. These two figures are impressive in themsleves when you consider I am an habitual flipper of watches. However, I think this one will definitely break those records.

I've had my eye on these recently, but I have yet to try one on. I also really like the new Explorer II, so who knows, my first Rolex could be on the horizon!

Beautiful watch, Ricardo. Congrats!

Congrats!! It looks perfect on your wrist. I've been thinking of selling my Motors T and picking up one of these.

How do you like the non-AR crystal. Is it distracting compared to your Breitlings?

Love that idea Pete...can't go wrong with that move IMO.

Thank You all for Your kind words.

Whilst I'm wearing this watch I'm constantly blown away with the perfect job that Rolex have done of updating this iconic timepiece. In the past it had a few weeknesses, IMO, like the clasp and bracelet. It seems Rolex listen to customer feedback because they have addressed all these issues and updated many of the other features. The jury is still out over the ROLEX engraving on the inner bezel but other than that I think it is perfect.

I agree Mr Willows.

The new Explorer II looks absolutely stunning in the press pictures I've seen. So, I'm guessing it will be gorgeous in real life. I can't wait to see one and would love to own one in the future. I also really like th update to the Explorer I that was announced at Basel 2010. I've still yet to see one of those in the flesh too.

Clasp operation –

1. The clasp is all the way in – the shortest position for the bracelet –

Image

2. The bracelet is pulled up to unlock the clasp, allowing the micro adjustments –

Image

3. These show the a couple positions in sliding the clasp adjustment, there are 7 or 8 positions available (plus an included half link!) –

4. The clasp is locked into position by simply pressing down –

Excellent watch - increasingly looking like my grail. And boy is that lume blue. I'd always heard it was blue, but had yet to see pictures that really showed it off. The lume shot in this Luxury Time review (scroll down for the lume shot) makes it look aqua/cyan. Good shots, all.

Thanks JacksonStone.

The lume is a very pleasant pastel blue, almost like a sky blue. It looks stunning against the white gold hands/markers and the deep black laquered dial.

Does the blue Superluminova have a different appearance from the green in direct light? The green SL tends to look a bit green-ish in direct sunlight. I'm wondering if the blue looks whiter, and thus possibly more appealing.

Congrats Ricardo. As you know from my post in your other thread, I think it was a shame to trade that gorgeous and unique CM, BUT.............. I must be honest that new Rolie of yours fits you like a glove. It never ceases to amaze me how Rolex went from producing an "E-, could do much better" tin-foil clasp, to the frankly class leading "A++, gold star" machined clasp they now make. I definitely need to lay my hands on a Deepsea!
