So I finally acquired the Eterna Kon Tiki Diver 1000m, also called the Concept Diver, coz it was a concept for many years until Eterna finally launched this in 2008 - delayed by a few years.
This watch was also meant to "re-launch" the Eterna brand in the U.S. For those in the know - Eterna is a Swiss brand founded in 1856 and was instrumental in founding ETA.
Over-engineered across the board, this watch is a beauty with a COSC grade ETA movement.
The watch is water resistant to 1,000 m and features 1) A non-screw down crown 2) An internal bezel that moves by moving the external bezel.
The above 2 was possible by borrowing technology used in car combustion cylinders using sealants etc.
The watch is also cased in a titanium cage that can flip up to rotate the bezel and it also protects the bull-head crown.
The retail was USD 10,000 and unfortunately the watch didn't take off.
No longer in production, a few pop up here and there - from USD 2,000 to USD 5,000 depending on condition and how adamant the seller is.
I bagged a brand new unworn on the Bay for USD 2,700.
Some pics to enjoy.
