during the winter Christmas holiday season, proper formal attire is a must... :!:
Best,
Ron

Everyone should own one of these toasty warm flight jackets and have a watch to go with it...

Ron, what watch strap combo did/do you actually wear when flying?

I purchased my very first watch, on bracelet, in Hong Kong in 1969. It was the first alarm watch I had ever seen, a Seiko "Bell-Matic" on its original bracelet. When it died, my next watch was a "calculator" watch (complete with stylus!) which my wife had given to me and which I returned as unusable as far as I was concerned. I can't remember the manufacturer of that one or the year I got it. After that I bought the first Casio calculator watch with buttons I could actually see and operate and I kept that watch for a long time and flew with it all the time. I didn't own another watch until 1990 when my late wife gifted me with a two tone Old Navitimer on OEM black calf leather as an anniversary present. She knew I had coveted a Navi or Cosmonaute from the first time I saw one during my military service in the sixties. I flew with that piece for many years, replacing the OEM strap every two years more or less. I was retired from flying by the time I started collecting Breitlings in late 2003 and that happened to be the year I bought a New Old Stock OEM two tone bracelet for the Navi. (below) Short answer, only the original Seiko on bracelet, the Casio calculator on plastic (?) bracelet and the Old Navi on OEM black leather. If I were still flying today, I would definitely be wearing black or brown OEM calf straps and/or Bund "kits" most of the time and OEM bracelets in hot weather when not expecting to go to higher altitudes such as during airshows or short hops. Collecting Breitlings and enjoying the hobby of photographing them posed with memorabilia and other aviation related "props" has allowed me to vicariously re-live my youth and that can't be all bad...  :)
Best,
Ron

Edit: BTW, that white buffalo strap was only acquired out of curiousity and need of a picture "prop". (Plus it was cheap - 8 bucks.) I love the black buffalo strap with the attendant Bund pad and wear that kit all the time but the white is totally (as the kids say) NOT my idea of a proper watch strap. My late wife might have liked it but she also had an all ceramic white watch which she wore when not wearing one of her Breitlings. The white strap will definitely be relegated to a desk drawer or given away in a forum photo contest I suspect...

Proper european etiquette says 'no watch at all during formal functions wearing formal attire' , and if for some reason you have to wear a Watch a thin handwound PP 18K or platinum square case with croco strap is what you will most likely get away with ;-)

Merry Christmas !!

Thanks for the insight into your watch collecting origins Ron. Some good background and interest there. My collecting history is a lot more average and a lot less colorful!
I appreciate your light hearted pics with the legendary Breitlings.
Enjoy your collection and all the best for the holiday season

:)

Great pics Ron, hope you have a merry Christmas!

Out of interest, why wouldn't you wear the bracelet at higher altititudes?

:wowzers What a look that is!

Having fun and making great photos with your watches is certainly part of the fun! Watches are meant to be enjoyed, and you seem to be doing just that!

Cheers,
Carl

Hi, Doc. Same to you. :D

At altitude the air temperature is much colder as you know.
Best,
Ron
