Hi Carl,

Nice pics. For some reason or other (perhaps because I have not seen the Aqua Terra in the flesh) I think I still prefer the Speedie. I can see that the blue dial would be very alluring. Not sure about the hands though. Perhaps it’s the plain ring around the glass. Not sure, but definitely a lot of comments on this watch suggest it’s a winner and congratulations if this one is yours. The Speedmaster though is the one that makes me stop when window shopping and the one that gets my attention when someone is wearing one.

I remember sometime ago, a friend of mine grabbed his Speedie II from the closet when we were over at his place for a dinner party. He had not put it on his wrist for about 15 years, not knowing what to do with it, so he asked my advice................ I was dumb struck why he was not wearing it! The rest of the dinner party was a bit of a blur I must admit.

Fantastic development of Omega and a great brand. Enjoy.

How well would you say the bracelet construction is compared to Breitling? I really need to get into an AD and compare the 38.5 and 41 mm versions. Just a gorgeous watch.

I have had a couple of Breitlings with the PRO II bracelet. And that is a beautiful bracelet. I think that the finishing on the clasp is what would make this Omega bracelet just a notch above. This butterfly clasp is lovely. It provides a very seemless look to the bracelet. Operation is very easy to get used to, as you have to close one side before the other, to get the ends to fit together.

Certainly, I have not noticed any flaws. The only thing that might be a concern with such a clasp, is that there are no adjustments that can be made without removing or adding links. Personally, I like the screw and pin system, where the pin is held in place between the ends of the links by a screw at either end. There are two half-links provided as well, so it's possible to get a good fit. For me, it's simple. If I'm able to get my small finger in between the bracelet and my wrist, it's tight enough. That does me all year, even if my wrist expands in the heat.

So far, this model with the blue dial only comes in the 38.5mm size. Rumor has it that it will be introduced at Basel 2013 in the larger size. Maybe so. Or maybe they want to keep it exclusive to the midsize model, as it is unofficically called the "Skyfall".

I took some closeup pics of the bracelet, especially the clasp to show how it opens and closes. Sorry they are not a bit clearer, should have used a tripod:





Both sides of the clasp are open. The left (in this photo is shut first) and locks into place:



This shows the one side shut. This side has to be shut first, before the clasp side, with logo and release buttons is closed:



Although it doesn't say S14 spring on the inside, the AT does have the Silicon Hairspring:

Well, I was looking for a watch that would be the "If I could have only one watch....", and I thought it would be the AT. However, there is no way I can sell the Speedy. For one thing, it is the most accurate watch I have owned, and even beats the AT in accuracy. Although maybe the AT, as good as it already is, will improve even more.

Even when it came to the weekend, it was a tossup whether to wear the Speedy or the AT, even though the AT is only 2 weeks old. But I love the Speedy that much.

You should have asked your friend if you could take care of the Speedy for him!

Thanks for the pics they give a really close detail of the detail and build quality. I have owned a Navitimer and Pilot bracelet which are 5 and 7 links across as opposed to one solid length wise link. It is quite a bit different in esign but still looks to be well made.

I don't think there is a wrong choice between the stunning blue and awesome grey dials. The teak styling of the dial really adds to these the colors the most in my opinion.

That 8500 movement sure is purty...

I almost did! He has just been introduced to his first grandson, so I suggested he gets a service on it (the watch that is) & keeps it aside for later. The watch came from his father as a graduation present!

Heres my ode to the speedmaster. "When life gets confusing & you don't know where to run, take the speedie, cause its guaranteed lots of fun". OK, I'm losing it!
