Hey all. I have been a Breitling admirer for some time and figure now is a good time to make it happen. Kinda on the fence though, I like the blue dials and dig the superocean with the glow aribic numbers all the way around and the Steelfish. Currently deployed to Guam and they only have the Superocean in black (diferent virsion with only 12.3.6.&9 are lumed are avail in different colors) but they do have the Steelfish in blue. Thinking about going ahead and getting the Fish but worried about buyers remorse wishing i had waited till i got home and looked for the reg superocean. Anyway, I am a pilot and to be its more important to be able to read the numbers clearly at nite than too have a lot of cool sub dials. Any openions? Also wanted to think everyone whose already posted, by far the best B-Ling educational sight.

Cheers-
Mike

Welcome to the board Mike!

No one can tell you which watch will be best for you, and unless there are any other B52 jockeys on here no one can help with the clarity of the dial in your situation but I will say - buy the one you want, not the one that is available right now.

If you compromise in order to save a few months then you likely will regret it when you get back home. Of course you can always solve that problem by buying another

Hey Mike, welcome aboard! I've got some friends out in Guam right now too... San Diego being a major Navy town we get plenty of people heading out to Guam all the time ;)

Are you leaning towards the Superocean and Steelfish because you're diving a lot out there? I only ask because most pilots opt for watches like the Navitimer series or the Emergency or Aerospace type models.

Hello and welcome!

The best advice is probably what you've seen so far - don't settle for less than what you want, even if it means more time and/or money.

Good luck with the hunt!

Thanks for the welcome. I enjoy reading your educational responses and learning more about the Breitlings. You really have the corporate knowledge here.

I am actually leaning more towards the Superocean/Steelfish mostly due to the very clean and simple display on the face of the watch. A must for me is very good readability at night in limited light conditions. I actually like the concept of the Colt GMT however I cannot get over the smaller case size. It is a very good idea, and its pretty funny to watch guys to pilot to figure out Zulu time. I was pretty disappointed when I discovered it was nearly the same size as my citizen eco drive. Amazing what a few MM do, and a big reason why to go to your AD to try a few on before buying. With the emergency I could see my 4 year old son activating the ELT and having to spend his first years college tuition paying off the Civil Air Patrol.

Yeah, I bet it would be a VERY expensive accident ;)

One of the things I thought about when I first got my Emergency Mission was that I shouldn't drink and wear the watch for fear of deploying it myself or any number of the clowns around me that would find it amusing to do it. :P

Good luck with your choice, you really can't make the wrong one as all Breitlings are treasures ;)

Post subject:  B-Ling in the B-52!!!!

Well, first off I need to say thanks to all you gents for your advise and to Mario for working the group buy. I ended up buying a blue dialed Steelfish on Saturday from the AD here in Guam. I was able to negotiate them down to about 22% off of MSRP and to top it off there is no sales tax here in Guam. I couldnt be happier. I will say if I had been in the States I would have gone in on the group buy, but I also wanted to fly with it a bit here on this deployment and the price difference became minimal. Bottom line i just had to have it!!! To make it worse (or better) another pilot also just had to have one too, so he bought a blue dialed Airwolf. Also a WAY awsome watch. I love the turbo fans on the back. Anyway stay tuned for some awsome pics before the week is out.
