Greetings all,

After getting my first Rolex TT Submariner last month I was again hooked on watches, now just the expensive ones... My wife is far from happy.

I have collected watches for years, I have ~150 currently, mainly low end, picked purely for their looks... I have a few Movado, an oddly rare Tiffany, a load of Skagen and Citizen.

As of yesterday I purchased a used Breitling (I am 99% sure it is a Skyracer Raven) When I saw it I fell in love. I picked it up from my local Ben Bridge Time & Again used watch sale.

The only issue I have is it came with nothing, no box, manual or anything... Now while I feel I am pretty good with watches I am still not sure I have it set correctly (AM/PM) and I really would like to know what the dial does, I know it spins nicely and there a a gazillion numbers, but I am lost as to their usage...

I am here to learn more and perhaps pick my next Breitling.

So far I just love this watch.

thanks,

Scott

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

It is indeed a Skyracer Raven. The watch has a fairly unusual chronograph movement with the second and minute totalisers in the centre and a combined 30 minute and 12 hour counter at 9 o'clock. With 150 watches under your belt you probably realised that the 3 o'clock counter is the running seconds.

Welcome :lingsrock:
Tomorrow you will know...Today the 5th... tomorrow morning will be the 6th...
If not pull out stem and advance time and watch the date trip...Just like all your other watches do.
It's no diff.
Enjoy your time here...You can learn alot. :D

So is this a good example of a Breitling?

I am just curious, like is this a rare non-standard model, a lemon or such... I just don't want to judge my Breitling experience on this watch if it is the odd man out watch...

And thanks for the replies.

Oh, and is there an online manual for this? I would love to figure out what all the dial numbers mean.

I have also noticed that the bezel and inner ring rotate at a different rate, is there a reason for that?

The Skyracer and Skyracer Raven ( rubber instead of metal bezel) are very nice Breitlings. Some are not enamored with the rubber bezel, but who cares? If it spoke to you, that ends the analysis. The dial is quite striking on all Skyracers and very functional and easily readable. The central minute totalizer is much easier to read the elapsed time than on the subdial.

In answer to your other question, it is not considered a rare watch.

Hey Scott. It's called a slide rule and used mostly for aviation (correct me if I'm wrong on this one) It's super cool once you figure it out. It does alot of simple math quickly. You'll love your watch even more now and impress your friends with numerical problems solved by looking at your watch. Here's a site I found when I was in the same boat as you. I just wanted to know for curiousity sake. Now I need a Navitimer... It explains in detail how to use it.

Welcome, you have come to the right place for info and help on B'lings. The guys here are really helpful.

That's a very nice watch (whilst rubber bezels are not my thing - each to their own :) ). We love piccies on here, please post some more when you get a chance :D .

Normally the rubber wouldn't do it for me either, but with the steel numbers showing though and the mix of the high polish, almost chrome, just looks so great in person.

Thanks,

Scott
