Post subject: | Hello from Illinois |
I've been a fan of quality watches for some time. My wife purchased a Tag Heuer for me on our 10 anniversary over 15 years ago, but for the past 5 years I've been admiring Breitling’s. With my half-century birthday coming up, you can guess what is on my wish list. I’ll be reading through this forum more in the coming weeks as I only recently found this resource. Any recommendations for a first time Breitling purchase from those of you with far more experience would be welcomed. I’ll be an avid reader of this forum……… |

As a matter of fact, yes I'm a resident of a northern suburb of Chicago, somewhat between Chicago proper and the Wisconsin border. My background includes assignment to Marine helicopter squadron HMA-169 in the late 70's, so the aviation heritage and linkage with Breitling is probably what is drawing me to the brand as well as its quality reputation. Key areas I'm researching more closely for information as I said are experiences (pros/cons) and suggestions for my first Breitling. Another is local sources for acquisition vs. web sources I've seen. For local retail there are a couple listed on the main Breitling web page, one fairly close in the Buffalo Grove area I have visited and where my wife purchased my Tag. I'm hoping to gain some insights and knowledge on other sources to ensure I find not only a genuine instrument, but also not spend foolishly. Any pointers, suggestions would be appreciated. I have an target date for purchase this summer to allow time to learn more. Thanks for acknowledging my intro, and again I look forward to reading through the many posts in this forum for opinions and information. Tom |

Welcome aboard! If you can provide a little more information about what you will do with your watch (e.g. every day wear, dressier occasions...etc) and what features are required versus nice-to-have it will help narrow down the choices some. For example, if water resistance is a must, you can basically eliminate the Navitimer line. And obviously, if a chronograph is a must you can eliminate several more. Good luck with your search and enjoy it, it can be just as much fun as owning one! P.S. You may want to move your "which one is a good first one" discussion over to the Breitling Discussion section as there is a bit more traffic over there. |

You should take a look at the Breitling Avenger Skyland. It is a beautiful watch. Here is a picture of mine. ![]() [img ![]() |

It might be best to walk into a dealer and see what speaks to you. Also you will want to put a couple (dozen) on to see how they look/feel on your wrist. Trust me something will certainly jump out at you and pick you. That's right you don't pick the Ling, the Ling chooses you ![]() |
