I found this Breitling in some old family stuff the other day. It didn't have a strap so I threw one on there. It is currently not working. Now that no dealers are open I do not feel comfortable sending it by mail to Breitling to service. Just wondering if it is a fake and also if any parts have been switched out or if it is all original. Also what would it be worth roughly in working condition? Thank you.

Looks OK to me, with the caveat that you haven’t shown us the movement. Don’t send it to Breitling as they probably will replace old parts with new, somewhat lowering the value in the process. You need to find a competent independent watchmaker, preferably that has experience with vintage Breitling watches and access to a network to find parts. As far a value goes, it varies depending on authenticity, condition and provenance, but you could look at completed sales through eBay and listings on Chrono24 to get a fair idea. Finally, if you are planning to dispose of it, can I suggest you sell it in its current condition, as it is rare unless you have a good relationship with a watchmaker that you will recoup the cost of the repair work. Also, that leaves the repair with the new owner, who will likely be a collector and prefer to make decisions on repair themselves.

I previously only looked at this on my phone. Now that I have looked on a larger screen I'd add that it looks like the watch might have service hands. However, on the plus side, the lug edges are nice and sharp, so the watch has probably never been polished.

It’s a fine watch, all original.

Thank you for your help and your fast responses I really appreciate it. I will definitely not send it to Breitling. I'll just have to wait until my authorized dealers open back up. I would like to open the watch myself to post pictures of the movement but do not want to break anything.
