Hi,

I just arrived here after some research on my first Navitimer, which I recently purchased. I got it for what I believe to be a very reasonable price and I like to wear my watches, so not looking for a collectors piece. Nevertheless, it would be nice to see if I was approximately right about my purchase.

It is a 1967 Navitimer 806, meaning it should have a Venus 178 ticking inside. The hands are obviously luminova replacements and the second hand is completely wrong I believe. Not sure about the subdial hands but they seem fine? The dials seems to be in a decent condition but it has lost most of its (blackened) lume. The sliderule seems original (?) but is yellowed in places. The case seems to be in very good condition, which is making me slightly suspicious. Crown and pushers are alright (?) No idea about the crystal but it seems alright.

Anyway, it would be great to hear the forums expert opinions. I am very much enjoying reading up on Breitlings and their interesting and diverse history. Never understood why they receive so little attention compared to the Speedmasters and Cosmographs of the era.

Thanks!
Tim

Great! Thanks for confirming. Glad I wasn't miles off, unfortunately I can already see myself getting hooked on vintage Breitling ... In any case, will keep my eyes peeled for a correct seconds hand.

Cheers,
Tim

No biggie, but the subdial hands aren’t correct. The bottom one should be a fat sword shape, the right and left one a thinner sword.

Yes, I see the difference. It seems the right subdial has the correct hand but the bottom and potentially the left are incorrect.

Is there a source for these hands? (sweep and subdial?)

Cheers

I think it is a handsome watch, and with care and maintenance you'll get many many happy years of service out of it. Only because you asked...The crystal sits a little tall, but that is an easy fix. Also, the case back may have had a light polish at some point. Usually the flat part is brushed, and your looks decidedly shiny in the third photo.

They come up on eBay occasionally, so put a standing search in there and be patient.

Thanks for all the input, I very much appreciate it. This is good news to me, since it seems the "important" (difficult to replace) parts, such as dial, slide rule and case, are all original and matching. The caseback would be easy to rebrush and the crystal could be repressed once I find a suitable sweep hand. At the same time I' probably have the black lume removed. It looks better without and to preempt any parts falling into the movement. I got it for a good price and like to wear my watches, so it worked out well.

Cheers
