Attachment: B5.jpg Attachment: B5.jpg Hi AllNot to familiar with Breitling vintage (but taking my time to learn). I came across this vintage piece and wondered if the community here could provide some inputs on the veracity or authenticity of this piece. For this era (i believe late 30's or early 40's) the dial pattern/layout is "reasonably" common - but i have not seen a similar type example from Breitling, particularly with an hour dial at 6'clock. The dial looks in great condition, which raises the heightened concern. But that's not to say it isn't authentic. Am not sure. The movement is noted as a Landeron 42 (a movement that accommodates the hour chronograph with a column wheel set-up), and from my observations it does look so with the exception that certain parts, (most obvious) the regulator arm have been changed (which i have seen on other Breitling models). Other parts of the movement may have been replaced - not entirely sure with an original or alternatively a replacement part. Admittedly, I am not technically proficient to observe or know this. Your comments and inputs are appreciated. It is quite a unique piece (I think). Am generally fine if movement parts have been replaced but definitely would avoid if it was not authentic. Thank You. ![]() |

Breitling did have one documented Premier model based on the cal. 42; the ref. 761; very different vase though can I see inner and outer caseback, please ? |

Thanks Fred. This is the only pic i have for the case-back. None for the inner case. What are your thoughts on the dial? Most times I have come across models with a bi-compax look. If with hour dial - only saw one on Christies' (2 years back) - but there were slight differences to scales. |

no similarities to any known caseback used by Breitling. I see no refinishing marks on the dial, although the logo is diferent from the two only known documented (i.e. seen and verified "in the metal" ref. 761, that also uses the cal. 42. the 761 only appears in one Breitling catalog, dated to the earliest 1940s; there is an undocumented watch next to it, ref. 736, the case (lug shape) resembles your example. so ... if we find a period correct serial number on that caseback, this may be a very interesting find ![]() ![]() |

Seems like a much later case than you would normally find a Landeron 42 in for a Breitling. I don't remember ever seeing a Landeron 42 in a Breitling with Breitling on the bridge. The logo on the dial is worrisome too. Looks pretty fresh. Also looks like it has the usual problem with the 60 minute sub register. You need to buy these working because parts aren't available. ![]() |

I agree about the logo on the bridge. A bit more intrigued by the dial. A close call i think. Here is almost similar representation. |
