Good evening all,

I have been looking to buy a stainless steel Brietling Chronomat Ref: 796 for quite some time but because I keep hearing about the number of fakes and made up examples which are being offered for sale I have decided to join the forum and hopefully get answers to the following questions: How can I identify the year of production because I would like to obtain one made as near to my year of birth which is 1943. Is it better to look for one having both the movement and case signed. What are the obvious things to look for when checking for fakes and finally, what is best type of dial.

I have seen one which is currently listed for sale on eBay and would appreciate any comments as to whether it is a genuine original watch and if possible its date of manufacture, hopefully the following link will work.

Discussed in another thread. Not a good one, more wrong than right. And you are looking for a 769 not a 796 I think ;) good luck.

Hello,

Thankyou for your prompt reply which is much appreciated. Yes, you are correct, it is a 769 that I am looking for. Can you please say what you think is wrong about the watch so that I can avoid any problems in my search.

As discussed in other thread, the case looks like it is correct. That is seemingly all. Dial is a (horrible) fictitious creation. Bezel is not remotely correct. Hands are wrong. No movement shot so no comment on that. Crown isn't even right. So basically it's so wrong it's closer to fake than Franken.
