Post subject:  1940's Breitling Venus 170 Real/Fake Questions

Hi All,

First-timer here, I appreciate your help in advance!

I posted this last night in the NAWCC forum:
http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?1318 ... &p=1018449
...you can see a bit of the discussion.

My main questions are:
- The font of the numbers on the face don't line up with anything I can otherwise find on the internet. There do seem to be quite a few models in this era and quite a bit of variety, but it's got me thinking...

UPDATE on this: interestingly, the font face lines up with a post on this forum last night:
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60020
...and the plot thickens: I bought mine from the same seller

- There's no signature on the movement. Per this thread:
http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?4...no-w-Venus-170
...apparently that's not a big deal, but I'm wondering if anyone else has an opinion since that was quite a few years ago.

That said, the case back is stamped.

Here are images of the watch:

Thanks!
Roger

Thanks Dracha. I'd love your thought process, but I've taken measures to get a refund. I have another datapoint of "fake" IRL, so there's smoke and fire. Bummed out, because it's a beautiful piece, otherwise.

reference number incorrect
Breitling logo on the dial incorrect
case shape and size nothing like what B produced
serial points to 1947 , watches were pretty well documented then , this one does not fit any of the documented watches

I have no doubt these 181's are authentic B's. I've seen enough of these over the years. Most examples have redone dials but there are a few originals out there. I was watching the OP's auction on Ebay and thought it was a nice looking piece. I wouldn't worry much about the bridge engraving as it could be a later replacement. Original ones pop up sometimes so no big deal if you want to swap it out.
