Had to laugh. "Found one whisper here and one whisper there" The watch is completely wrong and so are the facts... Even without the story, the watch is still very wrong http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/131638415857 ![]() Sellers text: This is the only watch like this ive ever seen. I found one whisper here and one whisper there but i could find no examples of this watch in any Breitling collection. This is one of the few watches they made between January and June of 1961. In 1959 Lt Cmdr Scott Carpenter was selected as one of seven astronauts for the NASA Mercury program. Carpenter was a US Navy test pilot who had flown in combat in the Korean war and who wore a Breitling Navitimer (12-hour version) during the 1950's. After selection he contacted Breitling and suggested they make a 24-hour version of the Navitimer pilot's watch. Breitling started making the 24 hour version of the Navitimer and later that year Breitling registered the word "Cosmonaute". In june of 1961 Breitling started printing Navitimer Cosmonaute on the faces of their watches. The reference number moved from 306 to 309 once Breitling started printing Cosmonaute on the dials. watch might actually be correct ? (description obviously is not) printed AOPA sign points to 64/65 , case points to those years as well I actually don;t see anything wrong with this watch , aside from the 806 reference, and its in good condition I wonder if the owner asked Breitling to convert an 806 to 809 ? , Ive seen that before on a documented piece with original letter from B stating that they did that |
