Here is the watch i'm looking at. The Ref# is "1189". Stamping on the backplate is "786749" followed by the ref number. Says it's from the 1940's. It looks very similar to a Breitling chrono cadet but something about it seems off to me... however maybe not, since I am newer to vintage Breitlings. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Gold hands and gold batons on the dial, I would think originated in a gold watch not a steel watch. Much like any other vintage Breitling, lumed hands, lumed dial, etc, etc.

Paul, many of the 11xx were chrome cases and gold applied dials and golden hands, just like many other brands in the late 40s and 1950s, dozens of documented pieces ;)

Maybe, but there are a lot more of them in the gold cases around and they look much more of a logical arrangement. Why would Breitling choose to stick them in the 11xx series when they wouldn't do that with, say, any of the 769's. Could possibly be because the 11xx series was a entry level series and they wanted to sell more watches. I wouldn't buy the OP's watch based upon it just looks wrong tu-tone.
